SATURDAY STORYLINES
  • Gannon is off to a 3-0 start for the third consecutive season.
  • The 2014 campaign represents the only 4-0 start since the program was reinstated in 1989.
  • Gannon owns the second-hardest cumulative schedule (.750) in the country. The Golden Knights' first three opponents are 5-1 against teams other than Gannon while their final eight opponents hold a combined 16-6 record. IUP is the only NCAA Division II team with a harder schedule (.778) at this point.
  • Two-time defending Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion Slippery Rock is ranked 10th in the latest National Football Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 25 Poll.
  • The Rock owns the nation's longest home winning streak at 18 games. Its last defeat at home came against Bloomsburg via a 49-41 score on November 10, 2012.
  • Gannon is 17-17 in night games over the last 16 seasons, including a 5-3 night record under current head coach Brad Rzyczycki. The Golden Knights out-scored Edinboro 49-42 at McConnell Family Stadium during the only night game last season.
  • Rzyczycki's club was predicted to finish fifth in the PSAC Western Division.
  • Last Saturday's overtime contest against Bloomsburg was the Golden Knights' first since a 10-7 victory at Bloomsburg on November 7, 2009. It was Gannon's first overtime home game since a 26-23 win against Northern Michigan on September 24, 2005.
  • Junior Karch Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Special Teams Player of the Week after moving past Jarrett Kier (1999-02) and into 11th place all-time at Gannon in career scoring with 153 career points.
  • Redshirt senior Quad Law (Donora, Pa./Ringgold) jumped past Abraham Ocasio (2011-14) and into fourth place all-time at Gannon with his 120th career reception last week. He also moved past Wes Whiteside (2002-06) and into seventh place in career receiving yards with 1,390.
  • Senior Mike Zanders II (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell) was named PSAC Western Division Defensive Player of the Week after surging into Gannon's all-time top five in tackles last week with his 282nd career stop.
  • Redshirt senior Tyler Johnson (North East, Pa./North East) set a career-high with three touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime when he recovered a fumble in the endzone.
  • Zanders II's season-high 12 tackles were his most since having 16 at Southern Connecticut State during the 2015 season opener.
  • Senior Matthew Gawlik (Strongsville, Ohio/St. Ignatius) entered Gannon's all-time top 15 in career sacks (11.5) during the fourth quarter. He needs two more to jump into the top 10.
  • The Gannon defensive unit has allowed only 10 points during the second half of its first three games this season. Seven points came last Saturday's after a bad snap on a punt gave Bloomsburg a one-yard scoring drive.
  • Carpenter received national coverage before playing a down as a Golden Knight. The redshirt senior defensive back was named to the D2Football.com All-America second team released in August. He transferred to Gannon prior to the 2015-16 academic year and redshirted last year. Carpenter was an all-conference first-team selection as a sophomore free safety at NCAA Division I Towson State before transferring after his junior campaign.
  • Gannon has recorded three consecutive winning seasons with a 6-5 mark last year, 6-5 record in 2013 and 9-2 mark in 2014. It represents the program's longest streak since producing a program-record four consecutive winning seasons from 1992-95. Gannon has recorded 13 winning campaigns in school history, including a stretch of five in six seasons from 1990-95.
