Gannon volleyball kept its unblemished record intact on Friday (Sept. 16), improving to 10-0 while at the Ursuline/Notre Dame (Ohio) volleyball tournament. Gannon downed a strong Ursuline Arrows squad, 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 15-19) and handled Davis & Elkins in three sets, 25-18, 25-14, 25-20.
The Lady Knights ran their streak of consecutive sets won to 16 dating back to six matches to Concord on Sept. 9.
Tied 24-24 in set one against Ursuline, Gannon's
Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio /Solon) kept the Lady Knights consecutive-sets-won streak alive after she delivered a crucial kill that put the Lady Knights up one. Ursuline followed with an attack error and GU took the set, 26-24. Gannon took set two by an identical 26-24 score and finished set three with a victory, 25-19.
Junior
Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio /Solon) and redshirt junior
Beka Smith (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) tied for a team-high 12 kills. Junior
Sara Crandall (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Cattaraugus-Little Valley) led in digs with 16.
In game two Gannon jumped out to an early advantage against Davis & Elkins, winning set one, 25-18, and never looked back. Gannon won set two, 25-14, and set three, 25-20.
Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio /Solon) led with 12 kills while
Hannah Kren (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added seven.
The Lady Knights will play Ohio Valley on Saturday (Sept. 16) in the final day of the Ursuline/Notre Dame volleyball tournament. The contest is slated for Noon.
