Gannon Volleyball Downs Urbana & Fairmont State

ERIE, Pa. - Gannon volleyball took care of business on Saturday (Sept. 10) in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)/Mountain East Conference (MEC) Crossover tournament at Gannon University. The Lady Knights took care of Urbana 3-0 and Fairmont State, 3-0.

The Lady Knights improved to 8-0, sweeping all four matches against MEC opponents.

"Overall, this weekend I would give us an "A" grade," said Gannon head coach Matt Darling. "There are certainly things that we need to be better at. We need to execute better on the defensive side and we need to execute a little bit better at the service line, but those issues were masked by extraordinary offensive performance."

Gannon has won 10 consecutive sets dating back to the third set of the Concord match on Friday.

On Saturday (Sept. 10) the Lady Knights claimed a 25-19 victory in set one over Urbana and never looked back. Gannon rolled in sets two and three by an identical 25-17 score.
Lauren Beck (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) led GU with 11 kills in the match along with four blocks. Carolyn Knollman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) led the team in blocks (10), assists (33) and service aces (3).

Gannon then took down the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-16). Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio /Solon) led GU in kills with 14. Hannah Kren (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added 10 kills to aid the Lady Knights.

The Lady Knights will next play at the Notre Dame (Ohio)/Ursuline tournament on Sept. 16 & 17. Gannon will play at Ursuline on Friday at Noon and then shift over to Notre Dame College to play Davis & Elkins at 4 pm. GU will finish off against Ohio Valley at Notre Dame College on Saturday at Noon.
