GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Seton Hill grabbed a 4-0 lead with two runs in the first inning and two more in the fifth.
  • Gannon finally broke through during the top of the sixth inning, scoring three times to claw within 4-3. Three consecutive one-out singles by redshirt senior Bobby Roach (Erie, Pa./McDowell), senior Jared Wiesen (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) and redshirt senior Mark DeVita (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) plated the first run.
  • Sophomore Charles Benack (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) followed with a fourth straight single that pushed Wiesen and DeVita across the plate.
  • Seton Hill immediately responded with four runs during its half of the inning to regain control at 8-3.
  • Gannon added one last run in the seventh when sophomore Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) doubled and scored on Roach's two-out RBI single to right center. Wiesen followed with a single, but the Golden Knights were unable to bring the tying run to the plate.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Wiesen, DeVita and Roach recorded two hits and scored one time each.
  • Junior Santiago Mendez (Potterville, Mich./Lansing Eastern) dropped to 7-2 despite a complete-game effort.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon is ranked seventh in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Regional Poll.
  • Seton Hill is tabbed fourth in the NCBWA Atlantic Regional Poll and fifth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings.
  • Mendez lost for the first time since April 2 at California (Pa.).
  • Wiesen and DeVita recorded their 25th and 15th multiple-hit games, respectively. Roach generated his fifth double-dip performance.
  • Benack drove home multiple runs for the seventh time in 2016.
  • Wiesen extended his team-best hit streak to nine games.
  • DeVita moved into Gannon's all-time top 15 with his 68th career RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Seton Hill struck first again with a single run during the bottom of the first inning.
  • Gannon turned a one-run deficit into a one-run advantage with a pair of runs in the third. Redshirt sophomore Ryan Vargo (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview) drew a lead-off walk. After moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Roach and wild pitch, he scored the tying run on Wiesen's single to center field.
  • Wiesen advanced to third on a DeVita single and scored the go-ahead run on Benack's sacrifice fly to left field.
  • The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, the Griffins placed runners on first and second with a walk and single.  Mark Colella followed with an RBI single up the middle that tied the game at two.
  • Aaron Previsky followed with a ground ball to third base. Gannon attempted to turn a double play, but the throw to first was not in time. Pinch runner Evan Myers rounded third and beat the throw home for the walk-off win.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Wiesen, DeVita and sophomore Matt Oruch (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) led the attack with two hits each.
  • Sophomore David Cricks (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) dropped to 4-4 with 6 1/3 innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out two and walked one.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Seton Hill is tabbed fourth in the NCBWA Atlantic Regional Poll and fifth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings.
  • Gannon was swept in a doubleheader for only the third time this season.
  • The Golden Knights have tied their longest losing streak of the campaign at three.
  • Seton Hill remained perfect in six home games against Gannon since joining the conference.
  • Wiesen recorded his 26th multiple-hit game while extending his hit streak to 10 games. Both marks are best on the team.
  • DeVita and Oruch generated their 16th and 12th multiple-hit efforts of the season.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon and Seton Hill conclude their four-game series Saturday, April 30 at McConnell Family Stadium.
  • The PSAC Western Division doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
  • Both teams have clinched PSAC Tournament spots, but are still fighting for playoff seeding.
  • Gannon needs a combination of two wins or California (Pa.) losses to clinch the PSAC West third seed. The Vulcans play at Pitt-Johnstown. The Golden Knights are guaranteed at least the fourth seed.
  • Seton Hill has clinched at least the PSAC West second seed, but can capture the top seed by sweeping Gannon if Indiana (Pa.) also sweeps at Mercyhurst.
