GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon took a 3-2 lead midway through the first half. Junior Yohana Romero (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) forced the first tie at one with her second goal of the season 4:40 into the contest.
  • After Edinboro regained the lead, Gannon responded with consecutive unassisted scores from junior Ashley Mozingo (Fallston, Md./Fallston) for a 3-2 edge with 17:31 showing on the clock.
  • That's when the Fighting Scots ripped off the decisive run. The home squad tallied five straight goals to assume a 7-3 lead with 7:31 remaining in the first half.
  • Senior Becky Hilker (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central SS) managed to stem the tide with 1:27 left, scoring off an assist from junior Tessa Mitchell (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and cutting the deficit to 7-4 at the intermission.
  • The second half turned into a defensive slugfest as both teams combined to score four goals.
  • Gannon scored the first two goals of the second half. Sophomore Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) and Mozingo produced the scores, climbing within 7-6 midway through the second half.
  • Edinboro ended a scoreless streak that lasted 26 minutes and 13 seconds dating back to the first half with Hannah Mong's goal at the 11:18 mark.
  • As the Fighting Scots ended their scoreless streak, they started a new one for Gannon who went the final 14:17 without a score.
  • Meanwhile, Edinboro added an insurance goal with 33 seconds remaining to account for the final 9-6 score.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Edinboro defeated Gannon for the first time in nine all-time meetings.
  • The Lady Knights will now need four things to happen in order to qualify for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament. However, they only control one of those four items - needing to defeat Millersville Saturday morning at home. Three Slippery Rock losses to Mercyhurst tonight, Shippensburg on Saturday and Seton Hill on Tuesday are also needed.
  • Mozingo netted her 50th career goal while recording her fifth hat trick of the season.
  • Martinelli, Miller and Owczarzak secured career-highs in ground balls.
  • King won at least nine draw controls for the fourth time this season.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon concludes the regular season Saturday, April 23 against Millersville at McConnell Family Stadium.
  • The contest is scheduled for a special time of 11 a.m. to accommodate the Gannon-California (Pa.) softball doubleheader slated for 3 p.m.
  • It will be Senior Day as Kelsey Bright (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo), Darby and Hilker will be honored during pregame festivities that begin at 10:50 a.m.
  • Gannon is 13-2 all-time against Millersville, including a perfect 6-0 mark since joining the PSAC.
  • The Lady Knights are 9-0 against the Marauders since 2005.
