HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half was one of runs and momentum swings. Millersville began the contest with four straight goals.
  • After 20 minutes and 12 seconds without a score, junior Tessa Mitchell (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) gave Gannon its first goal off an assist from senior Kelsey Bright (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) with 9:48 remaining in the first half.
  • The Mitchell tally ignited a 5-0 Gannon run that put the Lady Knights in front 5-4 with 4:13 left in the opening stanza. Junior Ashley Mozingo (Fallston, Md./Fallston) was involved in the next four goals. She assisted on the first two scored by Bright and freshman Alexa Bower (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton). Mozingo then generated back-to-back unassisted goals, including a free position shot that gave Gannon a 5-4 advantage.
  • Millersville was able to regroup during the final three minutes, scoring twice to take a 6-5 lead into the intermission.
  • The Marauders continued their momentum with the first five goals of the second half to assume control at 11-5.
  • Gannon's scoreless stretch of 13 minutes and 17 seconds ended with sophomore Leilani King's (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) unassisted goal at the 19:56 mark.
  • After Millersville extended its lead to 13-6 with two more scores, Gannon tried to rally with its postseason hopes on the line. The Lady Knights ripped off four straight goals to pull within 13-10.
  • Bower netted the first two tallies of the run, before senior Becky Hilker (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central SS) and King found the back of the net.
  • King's free position goal with 36 seconds remaining cut the deficit to three, but Gannon was unable to get any closer.
  • Millersville tacked on a final goal with one second left to account for the final 14-10 score.
