HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Gannon was back to its usual ways, scoring first with a four-run opening frame. Senior Chris Beer (Burlington, Ontario/M.M. Robinson), Benack and sophomore Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) had RBI singles during the blitz. Another run scored on a wild pitch.
  • The Golden Knights extended their lead to 6-0 with a pair of runs during the top of the fifth inning. Beer drew a one-out walk, advanced to third on a failed pick-off attempt and beat a throw home on a grounder to the second baseman. Cox later produced a two-out RBI single to score sophomore Matt Oruch (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon).
  • California (Pa.) cut the deficit in half with three runs during its turn in the fifth. The Vulcans brought the tying run to the plate, but freshman Matthew Yough (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) came out of the bullpen to end the threat with a strikeout and ground-out.
  • Gannon immediately responded by manufacturing two insurance runs during its next at-bat in the sixth. The Golden Knights put runners on base with a hit by pitch and error.
