HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon scored during its first at-bat. Sophomore Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) led off with a single up the middle. Junior Jen Moran (West Mifflin, Pa./Fox Chapel) replaced her on the base paths after a fielder's choice and stole second base. She then scored the contest's first run on an error.
  • Edinboro flipped the score during the bottom of the third inning. After two quick outs, the Fighting Scots scored two unearned runs after a dropped fly ball opened the door.
  • Gannon put runners on first and second in the fourth, but failed to get the tying run home.
  • Edinboro starting pitcher Carley Nasca then faced the minimum during the final three innings.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Four different Lady Knights recorded a hit.
  • Junior Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) was the tough-luck loser on the mound despite allowing zero earned runs in sixth innings. She struck out three and walked none.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon's season-high six-game win streak came to an end.
  • Gumbita tossed her 17th complete game of the campaign and 40th of her career. She has allowed only two earned runs during her last five starts, spanning 31 innings.
  • Bates extended her team-best hit streak to five games.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Gannon rebounded nicely from the opening loss and grabbed an early 3-0 lead. The first two runs came during the top of the second inning on freshman Autumn Smith's (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) RBI double and sophomore Nathaly Pacheco's (Rialto, Calif./Eisenhower) RBI infield single.
  • The Lady Knights extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth when Pacheco was hit by a pitch, before coming around on singles by senior Rachel deGuia (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) and Martinez.
  • Edinboro cut the deficit to 3-2 with two runs during its fourth-inning at-bat, but Gannon immediately responded with a three-run spot in the fifth.
  • Pacheco made it a 4-2 game with a bases-loaded single. One batter later, sophomore Allie Salerno's (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) pinch-hit, two-out, single scored two and bumped the lead to 6-2.
  • Edinboro scored another tally during the bottom of the frame, before Gannon tacked on one more insurance run in the sixth. Moran singled up the middle, stole second and scored on senior Alyssa Bates' (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) double down the left field line.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Martinez, Moran, Smith and Pacheco recorded two hits each.
  • Smith finished 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
  • Pacheco went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs.
  • Freshman Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) evened her record at 6-6 with a five-hit complete game, allowing one earned run.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon finished 1-3 against Edinboro after the Fighting Scots swept a doubleheader at McConnell Family Stadium on March 26.
  • Perich recorded her ninth complete game of the season.
  • Gannon improved to 15-0 when leading after four innings.
  • The Lady Knights scored at least seven runs for the sixth time this season.
  • Gannon recorded double-digit hits for the fourth time in 2016, falling two shy of its season-high set during a 14-2 victory against Lake Superior State at the National Training Center (NTC) Games on March 3.
  • Bates extended her team-best hit streak to six games.
  • Martinez recorded her team-best 10th multiple-hit game of the season.
  • Pacheco and Moran produced their sixth and fifth multiple-hit performances of the campaign, respectively.
  • Gannon ended a busy eight-game week with a 7-1 record.
  • The Lady Knights remained in second place in the PSAC Western Division with four regular-season games remaining. The top three teams in each division qualify for the PSAC Tournament.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon returns to action Tuesday, April 19 against Point Park at McConnell Family Stadium.
  • The final non-conference doubleheader of the season is scheduled for 3 p.m.
  • Gannon is 8-1 all-time against Point Park, but the two programs haven't met since the 2012 season.
