Gannon Baseball Team Falls in Completion of Suspended Game

THE RUNDOWN

  • The Short Story: The Mercyhurst baseball team tacked on two more runs after resuming the final contest of its four-game series against Gannon and completed a 7-0 victory Wednesday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium. The original game was halted Sunday afternoon in the top of the fifth inning due to snow and field conditions.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The contest was resumed Wednesday with Mercyhurst leading 5-0 in the top of the fifth inning. The Lakers began with two runners on and two outs, before adding another run after play resumed.
  • Mercyhurst put one more insurance run on the board in the sixth to account for the scoring.
  • Freshman Dominic Mori (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) recorded Gannon's only hits during Wednesday's action, reaching base in the fifth and seventh innings. However, he never advanced past second base.

GAME NOTES
  • Mori went 2-for-3, recording two of Gannon's five hits.
  • Junior Nico DiPaolo (Bridgeville, Pa./Bishop Canevin), sophomore David Cricks (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) and freshman Matthew Yough (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) saw action out of the bullpen.
  • Yough pitched a perfect seventh inning.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon is ranked seventh in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Regional Poll.
  • Mercyhurst is tabbed fourth in the latest NCBWA Atlantic Regional Poll.
  • Gannon began the four-game series in a three-way tie for first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division, but dropped to fourth place with a 1-3 series. The Golden Knights are one game behind Seton Hill and two games out of first place.
  • Yough completed his fifth consecutive scoreless appearance, extending his scoreless streak to 7 1/3 innings. He hasn't allowed a run since March 17 against Indiana (Pa.).
  • Gannon was shut out for the third time this season.
