HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon and Mercyhurst split the opening two goals, including an unassisted score from junior Ashley Mozingo (Fallston, Md./Fallston).
  • The Lakers snapped the tie with five consecutive goals to assume a 6-1 lead with 16:51 left in the first half.
  • After a time-out, Gannon ended a scoreless streak that lasted 13 minutes and 57 seconds with an unassisted goal by sophomore Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy).
  • King's goal started a mini 3-1 run during the final 13 minutes and 47 seconds. Mozingo completed a natural hat trick with scores at the 8:22 and 5:23 marks. The latter cut the deficit to 7-4.
  • Freshman Alexa Bower (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) appeared to give Gannon one last first-half goal, but officials determined the ball went into the net after the horn and waved off the score.
  • Mercyhurst opened the second half with the first two goals, igniting a 6-1 run that pushed the Lakers' lead to 13-5 with 10:39 remaining.
  • Bower's tally at the 22:15 mark was Gannon's lone score during the Mercyhurst run.
  • After Mozingo's fourth goal of the afternoon, Mercyhurst countered with three more scores to start a running clock.
  • However, Mozingo pulled the deficit within single digits 59 seconds later. Her fifth goal capped the scoring with 3:17 to play and accounted for the final 16-7 score.
