HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With five matches under its belt already, Young Harris looked like the experienced team early on. The Mountain Lions snapped a 1-1 tie with five consecutive goals to assume a 6-1 lead with 14:31 left in the first half.
  • Gannon was able to stop the momentum with back-to-back scores from sophomore Kaitie Babiarz (Alpharetta, Ga./Johns Creek) and Mitchell, cutting the deficit to 6-3.
  • Neither team was able to score during the final 8:33 of the first half, before Young Harris took a three-goal lead into the break.
  • Gannon raced out of halftime with three more goals during the opening three minutes. Sophomore Kierstyn Haight (Oshawa, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) needed only 34 seconds to score, before a pair of goals from Mitchell tied the match at six.
  • Young Harris regrouped with three of the next four goals and appeared to be back in control with a 9-7 lead at the 17:25 mark.
  • However, it was all Gannon after that. The Lady Knights shut out the Mountain Lions 5-0 the rest of the way to secure a 12-9 victory.
  • Gannon tied the contest on consecutive goals from junior Ashley Mozingo (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Haight.
  • Senior Kelsey Bright's (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) score with 10:01 remaining gave Gannon the lead for good at 10-9.
  • Freshman Micaela Capozzo (Medford, Mass./Pinkerton Academy) and Mitchell then added insurance goals during the final five minutes and 28 seconds.
