HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After falling behind 3-0, Gannon made the initial surge with eight consecutive points. The run included four consecutive jumpers, including a pair from senior Tony Boykins (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix).
  • Le Moyne countered with an 8-0 run of its own to forge back ahead 11-8 with 12:34 left in the first half.
  • The momentum swings continued as Gannon generated a mini 6-0 run to flip-flop the three-point lead. An old-fashion three-point play by senior Jean Yves Toupane (Dakar, Senegal/Lee (Maine) Academy) capped the run, giving the Golden Knights a 14-11 advantage midway through the first half.
  • At this point, it should be no surprise that Le Moyne answered with a run to continue the exchange. The Dolphins followed with 10 straight points to assume control at 21-14 at the 5:38 mark.
  • Gannon went 5:04 without a point until Toupane hit another jumper with 4:41 remaining.
  • Le Moyne grabbed its biggest lead of the first half at 31-20 after Tanner Hyland hit a three-pointer with 1:38 showing on the clock.
  • The Dolphins matched that difference at the break when Russell Sangster drilled a triple at the buzzer, sending the home team into the intermission with a 34-23 lead.
  • Le Moyne held an 11-point lead on two more occasions during the first three minutes of the second half.
  • Trailing 43-34, Gannon put together a 9-3 run to pull within 46-43. A pair of free throws by sophomore Isaiah Eisendorf (Los Angeles, Calif./Springbrook, Md.) and a lay-up by Boykins cut the deficit to three points with 9:54 remaining.
  • Le Moyne converted a lay-up on its next possession, igniting a 15-5 run over the next four minutes and 28 seconds. A pair of free throws by Qwadere Lovell pushed the Dolphins' lead to 61-48 with 5:03 to play.
  • Gannon was unable to cut the deficit to single digits the rest of the way, before falling 68-54.

GAME NOTES
  • Toupane was Gannon's leading scorer for the 10th time this season with 24 points, six rebounds and three steals.
  • Boykins was the only other Golden Knight in double digits with 13 points. He missed his second double-double by one rebound after hauling down eight in the first 20 minutes.
  • Gannon shot 41.7 percent (20-48) from the field, 22.2 percent (2-9) from three-point range and 70.6 percent (12-17) from the free throw line.
  • Hyland topped the Le Moyne scoring unit with 17 points and five rebounds, hitting 5-of-10 three-pointers.
  • Sangster and Stan Buczek added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Le Moyne shot 50 percent (23-46) from the floor, 42.3 percent (11-26) from behind the arc and 64.7 percent (11-17) from the charity stripe.
  • The Dolphins out-scored the Golden Knights 25-11 in points off turnovers and 27-6 in bench points.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon dropped to 1-10 on the road this season, suffering five of those setbacks by single digits.
  • Le Moyne earned a season split after Gannon posted a 58-56 victory during the 32nd Annual Gary Miller Classic semifinals on November 27.
  • Toupane reached double digits in scoring for the seventh straight game and 18th time this season.
  • Boykins had a double-digit scoring performance for the fourth time in the last five contests.
  • Le Moyne became the eighth Gannon opponent this season to shoot 50 percent or better.
  • Gannon scored less than 70 points for the 16th time this season, winning only one of those contests.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon returns home for the first time in two weeks Wednesday, February 17 against California (Pa.).
  • Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
  • The contest can be heard live on Jet Radio 1400 and via the 90.5 WERG online stream at www.wergfm.com.
  • The 50th anniversary of the legendary Gannon-Youngstown State six-overtime game at the Hammermill Center will be remembered during halftime festivities.
  • Gannon holds a slim 14-13 advantage in the all-time series, but has a commanding 11-4 edge at the Hammermill Center.
  • California (Pa.) will be looking for its first season sweep of Gannon since 2011-12 after posting a 56-54 home victory on January 13 with a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.
  • The two clubs have split the last two season series.
