HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bloomsburg ran into a buzz saw early as Gannon opened the game on a 15-6 run. Trailing 6-4, the Golden Knights scored 11 consecutive points. The first nine came off the fingers of senior Matthew Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) with an old-fashion three-point play followed by a pair of long-range bombs. Freshman Hans Burwitz (Allen, Texas/Allen)'s lay-up nearly six minutes into the contest capped the run.
  • A 12-4 Gannon blitz midway through the first half gave the Golden Knights' their biggest lead of the opening 20 minutes at 32-15 with 8:28 showing on the clock. Dogan and sophomore Evan Phoenix (Stevensville, Md./Calvert Hall) contributed five points each.
  • Bloomsburg flipped the roles during the final 7:25 as the Huskies out-scored the Golden Knights 19-4. The visitors generated runs of 7-0 and 10-0 during that time span. Karonn Davis' jumper with 2:02 left cut the deficit to 34-32.
  • The two teams split the final four points as Gannon went to the intermission with a 36-34 advantage.
  • The second half was nip-and-tuck for the first eight minutes, before Gannon pulled away. Bloomsburg clawed within one point three times at 36-35, 43-42 and 45-44.
  • Freshman Jimmy Berger (Medina, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) then ignited a 9-1 blitz with a lay-up and capped the run with a nice feed to Dogan for a lay-in. Junior Zay Jackson (Queens, N.Y./Westside) nailed a key three-pointer in the middle of the run.
  • The Gannon lead reached double digits with seven minutes to play when tempers began the flare. After some physical play and verbal exchanges, junior Damon Miraud (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) scored off a feed from Berger while being fouled. Moments after double technical fouls were handed out due to extracurricular activity following the play, Davis was issued a second technical and ejected from the game.
  • The play was the start of an 11-0 run that sealed the victory. Miraud accounted for six of those points.
  • Another technical foul on Bloomsburg's Christian Mortellite gave Gannon two more free throws that pushed the Golden Knights' lead into the 20's with 3:26 to play.
  • Gannon's lead ballooned to 78-55 at the 2:29 mark, before Bloomsburg created an 11-1 scoring margin the rest of the way to account for the final 79-66 score.
