GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Indiana (Pa.) netted the first basket, Gannon ripped off an 11-1 run for an early eight-point lead. Freshman Jimmy Berger (Medina, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) ignited the blitz with a three-pointer. A triple by junior Zay Jackson (Queens, N.Y./Westside) and old-fashion three-point play by junior Damon Miraud (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) pushed the lead to 11-3 with 4:21 expired on the clock.
  • IUP responded with the next seven points to draw within one point.
  • Senior Matthew Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) followed with two lay-ups. The last one counted while being fouled. The ensuing free throw gave Gannon a 16-10 edge with 12:45 left in the first half.
  • The game continued to go back and forth. IUP countered with seven consecutive points to assume a 17-16 lead midway through the first half.
  • Gannon forged back ahead after Jackson was fouled shooting a three-pointer and calmly drained all three free throw. Back-to-back lay-ups by Jackson and Miraud then gave the Golden Knights a six-point lead again at 23-17.
  • IUP pulled within a point once again, but Gannon held off the run with a tip-in by junior Jair Green (Williamstown, N.J./Paul VI) and lay-up by Dogan.
  • The two teams eventually went to halftime tied at 27 after Anthony Glover hit a three-pointer and canned two free throws with two seconds left.
  • Gannon opened the second half with a lay-up by sophomore Evan Phoenix (Stevensville, Md./Calvert Hall) 17 second into the stanza, but that would prove to be the Golden Knights' only lead of the second half.
  • IUP ripped off 12-1 rally to assume a 39-30 lead at the 16:01 mark.
  • Gannon battled back to forge a 42-42 tie after an 8-1 run midway through the second half.
  • The Crimson Hawks regained control, before a Jackson three-pointer cut the deficit to 53-52. After two IUP free throws, Jackson drilled another triple to create the eighth tie of the evening at 55-55 with 3:20 remaining.
  • Gannon then went 0-of-4 from the field with two turnovers during the final 2:51 as IUP ended the contest on a 9-2 run.

GAME NOTES
  • Friday's contest was Gannon's first since a 65-63 loss at No. 10 Wheeling Jesuit 11 days ago.
