HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon came out of the gates operating on all cylinders, scoring the first 10 points of the contest. Sophomore Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) produced the first four points, before redshirt senior Lanise Saunders (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) converted an old-fashion three-point play and freshman Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic) drilled a three-point bomb.
  • Lock Haven went scoreless during the opening 7:57 until Emily James' jumper put the Bald Eagles on the board. Her jumper ended a scoreless drought by both teams that lasted three minutes and 49 seconds.
  • James' basket was the start of an 11-0 blitz that put Lock Haven in front 11-10 with less than one minute to play in the first quarter.
  • Gannon rebounded with three free throws from junior Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) to assume a 13-11 advantage after one quarter.
  • Lock Haven generated the first six points of the second quarter and held the lead for the remainder of the first half.
  • Neither team produced a run larger than four points during the second quarter.
  • Lock Haven's biggest lead of the first half was six points on two different occasions in the second quarter, before the Bald Eagles went to the intermission with a 34-30 advantage.
  • A mini 6-0 run gave the visitors their biggest lead of the afternoon at 40-32 with 7:41 remaining in the third quarter.
  • Gannon slowly chipped away at the deficit and eventually tied the contest at 45 following Mitchell's old-fashion three-point play with 19 seconds left in the third quarter. The Lady Knights ended the third stanza with a 9-3 run.
  • The lead exchanged hands four times during the final quarter.
  • Saunders snapped the contest's fifth tie with a lay-up, giving Gannon a 60-58 lead with 4:07 to play.
  • After a Lock Haven free throw, Mitchell pushed the difference to 62-59 with a lay-up at the 1:55 mark.
  • Gannon then went 0-of-3 from the field and 2-of-4 from the free throw line with one turnover during the final 83 seconds. It allowed Lock Haven to regain the lead on back-to-back lay-ups by Kayla Henderson. The second field goal with 21 seconds left pushed the Bald Eagles in front 63-62.
  • A turnover off an errand in-bound pass led to a pair of Lock Haven free throws for a 65-62 Bald Eagle lead.
  • Two free throws by Mitchell with eight seconds remaining cut the deficit back to one, but Ayanda McGill-Jefferson broke free behind the defense for an uncontested lay-up with four seconds left.
  • Gannon was able to inbound the ball in front of its bench after a time-out, but a potential game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark as Lock Haven celebrated a 67-64 victory.
