The Gannon Volleyball team played host to the West Chester Golden Rams on Saturday (Nov. 5) at the Hammermill Center. The match was senior day for the Lady Knights and they rolled to a 3-1 victory over the Golden Rams, 17-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-16.
With the win, Gannon clinched a spot in the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)Â Tournament. It's the eighth consecutive tournament appearance for the Lady Knights dating back to 2009.
The Lady Knights took a set to get going as they dropped the opener 25-17. Set two saw a dramatic turnaround. Gannon jumped out to a 5-1 advantage with three kills from
Beka Smith (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili). That early momentum carried through the set and the Lady Knights tied Golden Rams with a 25-17 set victory.
Senior
Hannah Kren (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) scored four of the first ten points for Gannon in set three. Gannon led 10-3 before West Chester used a timeout to regroup. They couldn't stop the Lady Knight attack, however. Gannon continued to stretch its lead and won the set 25-15.
The final set was tied at seven before Gannon went on an 11-1 run which was aided by two
Carolyn Knollman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) service aces and a Knollman kill. Gannon won the fourth set, 25-16.
Kren produced her 11
th double-double of the season with a match-high 22 kills and 17 digs.
Sara Crandall (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Cattaraugus-Little Valley) had a match-high 23 digs in the match and moved past Kathy Wotus for ninth at Gannon with 436 digs in a season. Â She is only seven digs back of Mandi Altomari's 443 digs in 2003 for eighth place.
Kren played in her 122
nd match at Gannon, the fifth most dating back to 2002. She also passed Morgan Reineke for the fourth-most sets played in a career at Gannon with 433.
Gannon improves to 24-3 overall, 13-2 in the PSAC.
West Chester falls to 18-10 on the season, 6-9 in the conference.
After the match, Gannon celebrated senior day for its four seniors,

Lisa Gropler (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy),
Hannah Kren (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran), and
Jordyn Thiery (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley).
The Lady Knights will be home on Tuesday in a weekday matchup against the Mercyhurst Lakers. The match will be at 7 p.m. in the Hammermill Center.
