Gannon Women's Basketball Falls to Lincoln at PSAC/CIAA Challenge, 66-40

THE RUNDOWN
  • Score: Lincoln 66, Gannon 40

  • The Short Story: Gannon stumbled in the second game of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) / Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA) Challenge. The Lady Knights dropped the game to the host Lincoln Lions, 66-40.
     
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) tallied the first five points of the game for Gannon with two free throws and a 3-pointer.
  • Mitchell's first five points had the Lions lead at just two but Lincoln stretched its lead to 10 by the end of the first quarter (19-9).
  • Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) started the second quarter with a layup. Tewes collected four points and six rebounds in the game.
  • After the Tewes layup, Lincoln went on a 14-3 run to grow its lead to 21 points at 35-14.
  • Gannon went to the halftime locker room down 35-16.
  • The Lady Knights regrouped at halftime and came out on a tear in the third quarter.
  • Marissa Siebka (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) notched a bucket in the paint with 8:03 left in the third quarter and Mitchell backed that up with a long-range trey at the 7:38 mark in the third quarter. the Lincoln lead was 39-21.
  • Mitchell knocked down another three-pointer at the 4:54 mark in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 43-29. It was the closest the Lady Knights could get to Lincoln in the second half.
  • Lincoln pushed the lead back to 20 midway through the fourth quarter. Amanda Okodugha hit five free throws in the fourth and Lincoln went on to victory, 66-40. 
     
GAME NOTES
  • Saturday's game was the second for both teams in the PSAC/CIAA Challenge.
  • Lincoln fell to Millersville, 76-55, on Friday (Nov. 11) in game 2 of day one's doubleheader.
  • Mitchell led the Lady Knights with 14 points, three rebounds and an assist.
  • Mitchell has been in double figures scoring in both of Gannon's first two games.
  • Gannon shot 27.1 percent (13-48) from the field, 23.5 percent (4-17) from three-point range and 71.4 percent (10-14) from the free throw line.
  • Lincoln shot 39.6 percent (21-53) from the floor, 40 percent (8-20) from behind the arc and 72.7 percent (16-22) from the charity stripe.
     
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The all-time series is tied at 1-1 after Saturday's game. Gannon defeated Lincoln last season, 74-62, at the Carol Eckman Memorial Tournament at West Chester.
  • The Lady Knights head home to face Shepherd on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
  • Gannon has won its last seven home openers dating back to 2008-09.
  • Last season the Lady Knights downed Millersville, 68-58 in the Hammermill lid lifter.
