There is no easy match in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
The Gannon Lady Knights played their second road match in two days and came away with a hard fought win at Indiana (Pa.), 24-26, 25-21, 25-19, 17-25, 15-5.
In set one the Lady Knights held a 24-23 advantage but the Crimson Hawks charged back with three straight points to win the set, 26-24.
Set two was tight as the Lady Knights clung to a 21-20 lead before the
Beka Smith (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) and
Hannah Kren (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added two timely kills to give Gannon some breathing room and a 25-21 set victory.
Gannon had a 19-16 advantage in set three before the Lady Knights strung together four straight points capped off by a
Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio /Solon) kill.
Ansec had a team-high 18 kills in the contest.
GU got behind early in set four and could never seem close the gap. The Lady Knights closed to within 18-16 but the Crimson Hawks finished on a 7-1 run to win the set, 25-17.
Gannon dominated set five, winning 15-5.
Carolyn Knollman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy) ended the match with the Lady Knights' 64
th and final kill.
Knollman had a career-high 49 assists in the match.
The Lady Knights move to 16-2 this season and 5-1 in the PSAC.
The Crimson Hawks fall to 13-4, 4-2 in the conference.
Gannon heads back to Erie, Pa. to play at crosstown rival Mercyhurst on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. Gannon leads the all-time matchup, 39-26.
