GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon controlled the first half with the exception of a few blimps on the radar, out-shooting Clarion 16-4 during the opening 45 minutes.
  • The Lady Knights ripped off eight consecutive shots, before senior Courtney Edwards (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) broke through in the 24th minute when she lobbed a perfect shot over a leaping Clarion goalkeeper from 30 yards out on the right side. Fellow senior Bethany Perri (Valencia, Pa. /Mars Area) was credited with an assist on the play.
  • Gannon produced the next five shots and had taken 14 shots in a row until Clarion got one off in the 35th minute.
  • The Golden Eagles' first shot in nearly 30 minutes almost tied the contest. Marina Kelly got behind the defense, but senior Shannon Differ (Brampton, Ontario /Notre Dame C.S.S.) came out to make the save 10 yards in front of the net.
  • Gannon took two more shots during the final eight minutes, before settling for a 1-0 lead at the intermission.
  • Both teams had scoring chances during the second half despite Gannon producing another large advantage in shots, 11-3.
  • Clarion's best chance to forge a tie came in the 75th minute. Aaliyah Odom ripped a shot on the ground from 20 yards out on the right side. Another Clarion player barely missed the redirect, before Differ dove to the ground to make the save.
  • Gannon generated a 6-2 edge in shots after that to ice a 1-0 victory.
