HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon needed only 124 seconds to score the contest's first goal on the first shot by either team. Freshman Emily Cekella (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) headed in a crossing pass from sophomore Kelsey O'Connor (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) from 10 yards out in the middle of the box for a 1-0 lead.
  • Neither team mustered much offense during the final 42 minutes and 56 seconds of the first half. In fact, the Lady Knights produced the only two shots the rest of the half in the 17th and 18th minutes. No shot was credited to either team during the final 27 minutes and 54 seconds.
  • Gannon almost doubled its lead early in the second half, but junior Hannah Manczka (Fairview, Pa./McDowell)'s shot in the 56th minute ripped off the crossbar.
  • The match appeared to be headed to a 1-0 defensive victory in favor of Gannon until late fireworks during the final 15 minutes.
  • California (Pa.) tied the contest in the 76th minute when Michaela Colon deflected a crossing pass from Olivia Bryan into the net.
  • Gannon wasted little time answering. Sophomore Amberlynn Kegler (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) put the Lady Knights back in front 4:30 later when she drilled a shot inside the right post from 25 yards out on the right side. Manczka picked up the assist on the play.
  • Cal had only last chance with 1:26 remaining, but Luisa Holzapfel's hard shot from 20 yards out sailed just wide to the right.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon produced advantages in shots (11-4), corner kicks (3-0) and fewest fouls (7-13).
  • Senior Shannon Differ (Brampton, Ontario /Notre Dame C.S.S.) didn't need to make a save en route to the goalkeeping victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Differ continued to add to her program record for career goalkeeper victories with her 33rd.

  • Cal's four shots were the fewest by a Gannon opponent since the Vulcans took two during last year's 1-0 home loss to the Lady Knights.

  • Tuesday's match was playing in chilly conditions with temperatures hovering in the 40's with 5-10 mile-per-hour winds.
