  • Location: Erie, Pa. - McConnell Family Stadium
  • The Short Story: The East Stroudsburg women's soccer team snapped a halftime tie with three unanswered second-half goals and ended Gannon's regular-season home unbeaten streak at 20 matches with a 4-1 victory Saturday night at McConnell Family Stadium. HOW IT HAPPENED
  • East Stroudsburg had the first two scoring chances, but senior Shannon Differ (Brampton, Ontario /Notre Dame C.S.S.) came out to make a save on a 1-on-1 blast at the 20-yard line in the 12th minute.
  • Shea Neal then got behind the defense in the 19th minute, but her shot sailed high.
  • Gannon converted its first scoring opportunity. Senior Courtney Edwards (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) sent a pass that bounced off a defender to true freshman Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) who then beat the goalkeeper to the left in the 21st minute for a 1-0 lead.
  • East Stroudsburg needed only 4:31 to answer, getting the tying goal when Alex Pickett controlled a loose ball in the right side of the box and scored inside the left post.
  • Gannon came close to regaining the lead twice before halftime. Junior Hannah Manczka (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) ripped a shot from 30 yards out 32 seconds after the ESU score, but the Warriors' goalkeeper barely tipped the ball over the crossbar.
  • Lewis appeared to have scored her second goal in the 33rd minute, but the linesman waved off the score after ruling the shot hit off the football goalpost above the net and bounced into the goal.
  • The two teams eventually went to halftime tied at one after an evenly-played first half.
  • East Stroudsburg nearly took the lead in the 67th minute, but true freshman Emily Cekella (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) kicked away a shot heading into the goal from Liia Carpenter after she got past the goalkeeper.
  • However, the Warriors scored that go-ahead goal 2:32 later when Pickett took a pass from Sammi Ortiz and beat the goalkeeper to the left side for a 2-1 advantage.
  • East Stroudsburg later tacked on two more insurance goals as Gannon moved its defense up in an attempt to score the tying goal. Hannah Gombos made it 3-1 with an unassisted goal in the 74th minute, before Pickett completed a hat trick with 53 seconds remaining.

GAME NOTES
  • East Stroudsburg finished with advantages in shots (16-13), corner kicks (5-2) and fouls (8-7).
  • Differ recorded four saves in goal, before senior Kayla Wysocki (Avon, Ohio/Avon) defended the net for the final 53 seconds.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Saturday was East Stroudsburg's first appearance at McConnell Family Stadium since winning the PSAC Tournament championship last November.
  • The longest regular-season home unbeaten streak in NCAA Division II came to an end at 20 matches with Saturday's loss. It was Gannon's first regular-season home setback since a 2-1 loss to California (Pa.) on October 11, 2014.
  • Edwards dished out her first assist of the season and second of her career on Gannon's first goal.
  • Lewis became one of only seven Lady Knights to score 11 goals or more during a single season.
