Gannon volleyball rebounded on Saturday (Oct. 15) against the Seton Hill Griffins in a key Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest, winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-21).
Gannon and Seton Hill began the match in a deadlock at nine before Gannon went on a 6-1 run that saw two
Sara Crandall (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Cattaraugus-Little Valley) service aces and three kills from
Beka Smith (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili),
Lauren Beck (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) and
Hannah Kren (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran). Gannon led at that point, 15-10. Seton Hill crawled back to within four but Gannon finished the set with six-straight points, winning 25-15.
Gannon already leading 19-16 in set two ran away from the Griffins with a 6-1 run to capture the set, 25-17.
Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio /Solon) crushed two kills in the set ending run.
The final set saw the Lady Knights dominate the middle portion of the set. Kren had back-to-back kills and Gannon found itself with a 19-14 lead. The Griffins made it back to within 22-19 but a
Lexi Johnson (Chandler, Ariz./Basha) kill helped propel GU to a 25-21 set victory.
Kren paced the Lady Knights with her eighth double-double of the season, collecting 11 kills and 13 digs.
Kren moved to within four digs of third on Gannon's all-time career digs chart. She's compiled 226 digs this season and 1,417 in her career.
Lisa Gropler (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) tied her season-high with 14 assists in the match. She also added two digs to her statline.
The Lady Knights improved to 18-3 overall and 7-2 in the PSAC.
Seton Hill dropped to 15-6, 7-2 in the conference.
The Lady Knights will see the Edinboro Fighting Scots on Friday (Oct. 21) at 7 p.m. in the Hammermill Center. Edinboro is 9-0 in the Northwest division of the PSAC. The Fighting Scots have won 16 straight matches after starting the season 0-4.
