GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The contest was scoreless at halftime, but it wasn't without scoring opportunities. The first came in the 27th minute when Gannon fired consecutive shots off the post and crossbar.
  • Shippensburg had a one-on-one chance in the 30th minute, but senior goalkeeper Shannon Differ (Brampton, Ontario /Notre Dame C.S.S.) came out and made the save at the top of the box.
  • The visitors had another chance two minutes into the second half after a pass got a Raider past the last line of defense, but Differ came out again and knocked the ball loose with a slide tackle.
  • Gannon then erased the scoreless deadlock in the 49th minute. Sophomore Nicole Felice (Cleveland, Ohio/Laurel School) headed in a corner kick from junior Hannah Manczka (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) for a 1-0 lead.
  • Differ came up big again in the 57th minute, stopping a point-blank shot from 15 yards out from the middle to preserve the one-goal lead.
  • Gannon doubled its lead 50 seconds later. True freshman Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) took a pass from fellow true freshman Emily Cekella (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) on the right side and buried a shot inside the far left post from 15 yards out for a 2-0 advantage.
  • Shippensburg came close to its first goal in the 83rd minute when it hit a crossbar. However, Gannon iced the match 3:10 later with its third goal of the contest. Senior Bethany Perri (Valencia, Pa. /Mars Area) placed a perfect shot from 35 yards out on the left side over the Shippensburg goalkeeper and into the upper right corner for a 3-0 edge.
  • The two teams combined for three more shots during the final 4:46, before the horn sounded to signal a 3-0 Gannon victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon controlled the contest by out-shooting Shippensburg 21-10, including a 10-3 advantage during the scoreless first half.

  • Differ and junior Danitza Indacochea (Maple, Ontario /St. Joan of Arc) combined to record the shutout in goal. Differ had four saves in 61 minutes and 24 seconds. Indacochea turned away two shots in 28 minutes and 36 seconds of relief action.
