HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon had the quicker step during the opening 12 minutes. After Mason began the scoring with a three-pointer, the Golden Knights responded with six straight points. Senior Jean Yves Toupane (Dakar, Senegal/Lee (Maine) Academy) sandwiched a basket by senior Tony Boykins (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) by two of his own for a 6-3 lead.
  • A three-pointer by freshman C.J. Asuncion-Byrd (Greenwich, Conn./St. Thomas More) and jumper by sophomore Isaiah Eisendorf (Los Angeles, Calif./Springbrook, Md.) pushed the advantage to 11-4 with 5:44 expired  in the contest.
  • Gannon grabbed its biggest lead of the evening at 21-12 with eight minutes left in the first half after consecutive jumpers from Toupane and redshirt sophomore Marcus Jones (Brantford, Ontario/Athlete Institute).
  • A late first-half run and buzzer-beater gave Edinboro the momentum heading into the halftime locker room. Trailing 25-18, the Fighting Scots ended the half with a 9-3 run. Wade-Chatman's half-court heave at the horn cut the deficit to 28-27 at the intermission.
  • Edinboro took the lead 37 seconds into the second half on Je'Land Head's jumper. It started a five-minute stretch that featured four lead changes and two ties.
  • Tied at 36, Head drilled a three-pointer and the Fighting Scots never trailed again.
  • Another Head triple later capped a mini 8-2 run that gave Edinboro a 60-49 lead with 9:04 remaining.
  • Gannon slowly cut into the deficit with one last effort, using a 7-2 run to pull within 62-56 on Toupane's jumper with 5:18 showing on the clock.
  • However, Edinboro countered with an 8-2 blitz to push the lead back to 70-58.
  • The Fighting Scots iced the game with four free throws during the final 2:06 and held their biggest lead of the evening at 74-61 when the final horn sounded.
