Gannon Women's Soccer Team Dodges Lightning in 3-1 Victory at Seton Hill; Brueckner Becomes Second Lady Knight to Record 100 Career Points

  • The Short Story: The Gannon women's soccer team battled through two lightning delays Saturday afternoon at Seton Hill, before breaking a 1-1 tie with two goals in 93 seconds to post a 3-1 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon struck first on senior Mani Brueckner's (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) goal in the 27th minute. Brueckner finished a ball from senior Kaitlyn Kissell (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) in the midfield for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Lady Knights out-shot the Griffins 10-4 during the first half, but was unable to find the back of the net again during the opening 45 minutes.
  • Seton Hill scored the tying goal in the 58th minute. Hanna Mark headed Emma Bearinger's free kick from outside the box into the goal, knotting the affair at one.
  • Gannon later used a 93-second offensive explosion to clinch the victory. Senior Sammy Valloud (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scored the eventual game-winning goal off Brueckner's corner kick at the 68:03 mark.
  • Brueckner then added an insurance goal 93 seconds later, scoring off a rebound from sophomore Hannah Manczka's (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) initial shot that hit the crossbar.

GAME NOTES
  • Two weather delays due to lightning interrupted action during the first 12 minutes.
  • Gannon out-shot Seton Hill 22-15. After a 10-4 advantage in the first half, the Lady Knights held a slight 12-11 edge during the final 45 minutes.
  • Seton Hill led the foul category (13-10) while Gannon produced a 5-2 difference in corner kicks.
  • Brueckner was involved in all three goals, scoring twice and assisting on the game-winner.
  • Valloud's game-winner was the fourth of her career and third during the last two seasons.
  • Brueckner scored a goal during both matches this season.
  • Junior Shannon Differ (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame C.S.S.) recorded four saves while improving to 2-0 in goal.
  • Brueckner has scored multiple goals in a match for the first time since a 2-1 victory against Clarion on October 26, 2013.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon has won its first two matches of the season for the fifth consecutive year.
  • Brueckner became the second player in program history to record 100 career points with her final goal.
  • Kissell and Valloud moved into a three-way tie with Katy Lynn (2005-08) for 19th place all-time at Gannon with 29 career points.
  • Valloud jumped into a fourth-way tie for 14th place on Gannon's all-time goal chart with her 14th career score.
  • Kissell's ninth career assist moved her into a three-way tie with Justine Rodrigues (2011-14) and Bethany Tagg (1997-00) for 13th place all-time.
  • Differ earned her ninth career goalkeeping victory, moving into tie with Candace Palkovic (1991-94) for seventh-most in program history.
