  • The Short Story: The Gannon football team broke school records for total yards (712) and points in a road game (66) en route to a 66-31 victory Saturday afternoon at Kutztown. Individually, redshirt senior Liam Nadler (Leipsic, Ohio/Leipsic Local) extended his streak of passes without an interception to 265 dating back to last season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon exploded for 21 unanswered points during the opening quarter. The scores came via a pair of touchdown passes from Nadler to redshirt senior Jesstin Hamm (Harwood, Md./DeMatha Catholic) and a 14-yard touchdown run by senior Brock Jones (Peninsula, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit).
  • The Golden Knights extended their lead to 28-0 when Nadler connected with redshirt sophomore Brendan Klemensic (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) for a 34-yard scoring strike 1:12 into the second quarter.
  • Kutztown and Gannon traded scores during the final 10:12 of the first half, putting up 10 points each. A 25-yard field goal by sophomore Karch Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) as time expired sent the Golden Knights to halftime with a 38-10 advantage.
  • Gannon was as hot after the break as it was beforehand. The Golden Knights reached the endzone during their first four second-half possessions, opening a 66-24 lead on Jones' 38-yard touchdown run with 10:50 to play.
  • The previous three touchdowns in the second half came on a 24-yard run by Jones, a 31-yard jaunt by redshirt junior Tyler Johnson (North East, Pa./North East) and Hamm's third touchdown catch of the game.
  • Kutztown managed a touchdown with 16 seconds left to account for the final 66-31 score.

GAME NOTES
  • Saturday's contest concludes Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover play. The crossovers didn't count towards the divisional standings this season.
  • Gannon held the upper hand in first downs (35-26), rushing yards (300-88), total yards (712-505) and time of possession (31:56-28:04). The Golden Knights won the time of possession battle for the first time this season.
  • Kutztown managed a slight 417-412 edge through the air, but Gannon only threw eight times during the second half.
  • The Golden Knights broke the school record for yards in a game, surpassing the previous mark of 691 during a 58-28 victory against Seton Hill last season.
  • The 66 points tied a school record set during the 2014 season finale against East Stroudsburg at home. It set a new all-time high for points on the road.
  • Gannon's 35 first downs tied the program record set against Seton Hill in 2014.
  • Nadler finished 28-of-36 for 412 yards and five touchdowns, tying his own school record for passing touchdowns in a game. He has accomplished the feat three times.
  • Jones recorded his second consecutive and 11th career 100-yard rushing game, finishing with 191 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries. His rushing yards equaled the 14th-highest single-game total in school history.
  • Nadler threw for over 400 yards in a game for the fourth time in his career.
  • Hamm recorded his seventh career 100-yard receiving game with 138 yards on seven catches. He caught three touchdowns for the second consecutive week, tying a school record accomplished six previous times.
  • Redshirt freshman Eli Quinter (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) produced his first career 100-yard receiving game with a team-best nine receptions for 104 yards.
  • Redshirt senior Mike Phillips (Bowie, Md./Bowie) reached double digits in tackles for the third consecutive game and fifth time during the last two seasons with a team-high 11 stops.
  • Redshirt senior Joshua Wiechelt (Depew, N.Y./Depew) entered double digits for the second consecutive week with 10 tackles.
  • Redshirt sophomore Nico Mendieta (San Ramon, Calif./California) posted a career-high nine stops to go along with his first career solo sack.
  • Gannon was listed among others receiving votes in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 Poll.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon is off to back-to-back 3-0 starts for the first time since the 1949 and 1950 teams accomplished the feat.
  • Nadler has now thrown 265 consecutive passes without an interception, spanning eight games. His last interception came on the third play of the fourth quarter October 4, 2014 at Slippery Rock.
  • Phillips jumped past Pat Rodkey (1993-96) and into eighth place all-time at Gannon with 249 career tackles. He has moved 11 places on Gannon's all-time chart during the first three weeks of the season.
  • Jones became the ninth player in school history to rush for 2,000 career yards. In the process, he moved past Jack Fulkman (1989-92) and into eighth place all-time at Gannon with 2,040 career yards.
  • Hamm moved into sixth place all-time at Gannon with his 107th career reception. He also increased his school record for career receiving touchdowns to 23.
  • Both Jones and Hamm became part of Gannon's all-time top-10 in scoring with 138 career points.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon begins a two-game homestand and PSAC Western Division play Saturday, September 26 against undefeated Clarion at McConnell Family Stadium.
  • Game time is scheduled for 12 noon.
  • Clarion improved to 3-0 with a 59-6 victory against Cheyney this afternoon.
  • The Golden Knights have won the last two meetings in the all-time series, posting victories of 45-25 in 2013 and 33-7 in 2014. Both contests were played in Clarion, Pa.
  • Following the contest against Clarion, Gannon remains home to host nationally-ranked Slippery Rock on Saturday, October 3.
  • It will be Homecoming Weekend with a start time of 12 noon.
