GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game appeared to be well on its way to a high-scoring affair after points were scored during the first three possessions.
  • A pair of Clarion field goals sandwiched around a 68-yard touchdown pass from redshirt Liam Nadler (Leipsic, Ohio/Leipsic Local) to redshirt sophomore Brendan Klemensic (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) accounted for the first three scores.
  • Clarion forged ahead on Matt Lehman's one-handed, two-yard touchdown catch with 1:46 left in the first quarter. The Golden Eagles eventually ended the opened 15 minutes with a 12-7 lead after the extra point was no good.
  • Gannon answered with a six-play, 70-yard drive that needed only one minute and 44 seconds. A 39-yard pass from Nadler to redshirt freshman Eli Quinter (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) put the ball at the one-yard line. Senior Brock Jones (Peninsula, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) took the next play into the end zone, pushing the Golden Knights back in front 14-12.
  • Clarion traded punches with a similar drive, going 69 yards on five plays in one minute and 46 seconds. The big play was a 46-yard pass play, before a five-yard touchdown pass gave the Golden Eagles a lead they would never relinquished.
  • Gannon drew within 19-17 on a 36-yard field goal from sophomore Karch Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) at the 8:59 mark of the second quarter.
  • Clarion then made it five scores in five drives, scoring another touchdown with 2:31 left in the half. The score provided the Golden Eagles with a 26-17 halftime advantage.
  • The visitors scored the only points of the third quarter with a touchdown for a 33-17 edge.
  • Both teams produced a pair of touchdowns during the final quarter. Nadler threw for both Gannon scores, connecting with Klemensic for a 32-yard score at the 12:43 mark and redshirt senior Jesstin Hamm (Harwood, Md./DeMatha Catholic) for a nine-yard touchdown with six seconds remaining.
