The Short Story: Meeting for the first time in program history, the Gannon softball team captured a sweep of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division opponent Pitt-Johnstown Sunday afternoon at Gannon University Field. The Lady Knights earned a 4-1 victory over the Lady Cats in game one. A five-run fourth inning in the second game guided the Lady Knights to an 8-3 win to secure the sweep in the team's regular-season home finale. The Lady Knights hosted their Pink Game during the doubleheader with the funds donated to local organization Linked by Pink.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ |Â GAME ONE- Gannon earned a two-run lead in the bottom of the opening frame. Senior
Jess Rectenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) led the inning off with a double to center. A sacrifice bunt by freshman
Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz. / Xavier College Prep) moved Rectenwald over to third. Facing two outs, junior
Alyssa Bates (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield) drove in Rectenwald with a two-run home run to center for a Lady Knights' 2-0 lead.
- Holding Pitt-Johnstown scoreless in the first five innings, the Lady Knights tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth for a 3-0 advantage. Bates hit a leadoff single to open the fourth with senior
Meghan Cunha (Geneva, Ohio / Edgewood)Â hit by pitch to put runners on first and second. Junior
Alexa Archambeault (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) dropped an RBI-single into center to score Bates for a 3-0 Lady Knights' lead.
- The Lady Cats broke their scoring drought in the top of the sixth with an RBI-single up the middle by Taylor Hoover to pull to within two, 3-1.
- In the bottom half of the inning, the Lady Knights added a run off a Lady Cat wild pitch for a 4-1 advantage.

GAME NOTESÂ |Â GAME ONE- Bates went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. It marked her 13th multiple-hit game and 11th multiple-RBI contest.
- Rectenwald and junior
Sarah DiOrio (Hunker, Pa. / Hempfield Area) accounted for the Lady Knights' other runs.
- Martinez and Rectenwald each recorded a double with Bates collecting her seventh home run of the season.
- Rectenwald (9-4) earned her second straight complete-game victory. She struck out two batters, allowing zero earned runs off four hits.
- The game marked the first between Pitt-Johnstown and Gannon in program history. This is the first year the Lady Cats are sponsoring the sport.

HOW IT HAPPENED Â | Â GAME TWO- Earning an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, Gannon scored both runs on RBI-doubles. Archambeault connected on the first double of the inning to score Cunha. Freshman
Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) extended the lead on an RBI-ground-rule double to center, driving in pinch runner freshman
Kaylyn Shaughnessy (Barrie, Ontario / Bear Creek Secondary).
- The Lady Knights pushed their lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the fourth with five runs. Pitt-Johnstown racked up three of its six total errors in the game in just one inning. GU scored on two of the Lady Cat errors with the other three coming on a two-run home run from Bates, her second blast of the day, and an RBI-sacrifice fly by Martinez.
- The Lady Cats scored their first run of the game in the top of the fifth on a lead-off home run by Karlie Tomich. In the top of the sixth, the Lady Cats cut into the Lady Knights lead with a pair of runs, 7-3.
- GU's final run of the game came on a ground out to second by freshman

Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) (12-3) earned a complete-game victory with 11 strikeouts, coming to within one of tying her career high for the second time this season. She surrendered three runs off six hits.

UP NEXTTwo doubleheaders remain in the regular season for Gannon. After completing their home slate of games Sunday, the Lady Knights will travel the rest of the way. Playing their fourth doubleheader in as many days, the Lady Knights travel to Indiana (Pa.) Monday afternoon to play the Crimson Hawks at 2:30 p.m. in doubleheader action. GU will remain in Indiana to face Pitt-Johnstown for the second time in three days. Tuesday's twinbill begins at 10 a.m.
