GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon appeared to be well on its way after scoring the first three goals and five of the first six. Mitchell netted the first two goals, before senior Kelley Sundberg (Mansfield, Conn./E.O. Smith) added a score off a free-position shot for a 3-0 with 22:18 showing on the clock.
  • After a Millersville score, freshmen Marie Brockman (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield Township) and Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) found the back of the net off assists from fellow freshman Kierstyn Haight (Oshawa, Ontario/Maxwell Heights). King's tally gave the Lady Knights a 5-1 edge with 16:19 left in the first half.
  • The two teams exchanged blows on even terms for the next 10 minutes until Millersville ended the half on a 5-0 run over the final five minutes and two seconds. Three goals came during the final two minutes as the Marauders took a 9-7 lead into the break.
  • Gannon needed only two minutes and 20 seconds of the second half to tie the match with a pair of unassisted goals by King.
  • Millersville later assumed a 12-11 advantage on Sabrina Fusco's goal with 3:13 to play.
  • In an attempt to score the tying goal, Gannon turned the ball over with 1:38 remaining. However, Mitchell then intercepted a pass by the Millersville goalkeeper at the 30 yard line. She raced down the field and scored unassisted while being knocked to the ground with 1:13 left, forcing an extra session.
  • Gannon won the opening draw, before Mitchell converted a King assist to give the Lady Knights a 13-12 lead.
  • Millersville answered with its own draw control and scored the tying goal with 45 seconds left in the first overtime session.
  • Gannon had one last chance during the opening extra session, but had a shot ring off the post with 13 seconds left.
  • The Lady Knights immediately won the opening draw of the second overtime period and it was Mitchell again who scored off a Haight assist at the 2:07 mark.
  • The two squads exchanged four turnovers during the final 2:07 until freshman Marie Brockman (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield Township) scored as the horn sounded to account for the 15-13 final score.
