HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon and Mercyhurst opened the match tied at one and three.
  • The Lakers used a mini 3-0 outburst to forge ahead 6-3 with 8:55 left in the first half.
  • However, Gannon got off the deck and tied the match with a late first-half flurry by sophomore Tessa Mitchell (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) who scored at the 6:32 mark and two more times during the final 29 seconds. Her fourth tally of the first half with 12 ticks left on the clock created a 6-6 halftime deadlock.
  • Gannon grabbed its first lead of the evening 34 seconds into the second half. Senior Kelley Sundberg (Mansfield, Conn./E.O. Smith) scored unassisted, giving the Lady Knights a 7-6 edge.
  • Mercyhurst countered with another 3-0 mini-run. After nearly 10 minutes of scoreless action, the Lakers tied the contest with 19:33 to play before adding two more goals for a 9-7 advantage with 17:51 remaining.
  • Gannon punched back yet again. Freshman Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) cut the deficit in half with a free-position goal at the 13:04 mark.
  • Freshman Marie Brockman's (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield Township) match-tying goal off an assist from King followed with 9:55 to play.
  • Mercyhurst regained the lead on Taylor Ventre's free-position score at the 6:15 mark.
  • With a little over five minutes to play, Gannon lost the ball in transition across midfield. Two Lakers collided with each other, but a foul was called on Gannon. Mercyhurst came back the other way and Ventre added another free-position goal with 3:29 remaining.
  • Gannon managed three more shots during the final 2:36, but Mercyhurst goalkeeper Rebecca Muscella turned away all three attempts to secure the victory.
