Gannon Women's Lacrosse Team Ends Southern Trip with 22-5 Victory at Young Harris

THE RUNDOWN

  • The Short Story: Gannon out-scored Young Harris 14-2 during the first half and never looked back during a 22-5 victory Saturday afternoon at Young Harris (Ga.). Freshmen Ileyana Little (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) and Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) led the way with five goals each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon took control with the first three goals of the match by junior Becky Hilker (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central SS), sophomore Ashley Mozingo (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and freshman Kierstyn Haight (Oshawa, Ontario/Maxwell Heights).
  • Young Harris finally got on the board 5:55 into the contest, but Gannon immediately responded with six consecutive goals. King sandwiched a Little hat trick with a pair of scores, before senior Kelley Sundberg (Mansfield, Conn./E.O. Smith) recorded his first career goal. The barrage gave the Lady Knights a 9-1 lead with 9:51 left in the first half.
  • After another goal by the home squad, Gannon ripped off the final five goals of the half to assume a 14-2 lead at the break. Four different Lady Knights scored during the run, including a pair of goals from Little.
  • The two teams split the first four goals of the second half, before Gannon ended the contest with six of the final seven scores.

GAME NOTES
  • Saturday's contest was the final one of a three-match road swing during Gannon's spring break.
  • Gannon out-shot Young Harris 36-14, including a 23-5 edge during the first half.
  • King led all scorers with five goals, two assists and seven points. She had one goal and one assist during the first two matches of her collegiate career.
  • Little was close behind with five goals, one assist and six points. She had only manufactured one assist during her first two collegiate contests.
  • Haight and Sundberg also generated hat tricks. Haight produced her second consecutive hat trick and finished the three-match trip with eight goals. Sundberg tallied the first three scores of her collegiate career.
  • Senior Jessica Kallenborn (Elmira, N.Y./Horseheads) picked up a career-high six ground balls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon ended its southern road trip with a 1-2 record for the second consecutive season.
  • The Lady Knights fell to Florida Southern and St. Leo's, before defeating Young Harris both years.
  • Gannon's scoring output was its most since a 22-7 victory at Millersville on April 20, 2012.
  • The Lady Knights produced their largest margin of victory since defeating Tiffin 21-2 on April 26, 2012.
  • Gannon's 36 shots were the program's most since firing 38 towards the goal during a 20-8 victory against Millersville on April 19, 2013.
  • The shot differential was Gannon's largest since out-shooting Tiffin 55-14 on April 26, 2012.
