The Short Story: The Gannon softball team dropped two contests Friday at the National Training Center. The Lady Knights opened the day with a 5-4 loss to Lewis before falling to Saint Anselm by the score of 8-2.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ |Â GAME ONE- Lewis held a 4-0 lead over Gannon through four innings. The Flyers scored two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-RBI home run by Kelsey Ullrich to right field. In the third and fourth innings, the Flyers added a run in each frame.
- Gannon split the Flyers' lead in half, 4-2, in the top of the fifth. Opening the inning with a walk by junior
Rachel deGuia (Canal Fulton, Ohio / Northwest), both seniors
Jess Rectenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) and
Meghan Cunha (Geneva, Ohio / Edgewood) loaded the bases loaded with singles. Junior
Alyssa Bates (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield) drove in Rectenwald and Cunha for the Lady Knights' two runs.
- The Flyers pushed their lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI-base hit.
- Looking to rally in the top of the seventh, the Lady Knights managed to score two runs before falling short to the Flyers, 5-4. A leadoff single to left by Rectenwald put GU on base. Next up, Bates drilled a two-run home run to left to trail the Flyers by one. Following Bates' bomb, the Lady Knights' chance of rally came to an end on a ground out to short and back-to-back strikeouts.

GAME NOTESÂ |Â GAME ONE- Rectenwald went 3-for-4. Bates and Cunha each registered two hits with Bates recording the Lady Knights' first home run of the season. She generated all four Lady Knights' runs. Â
- After consecutive relief wins Thursday, junior
Alison Benz (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Mount Mercy Academy) Benz (3-2) recorded a complete-game performance in the loss. She struck out three batters, while earning two of the team's five surrendered.
- Gannon registered four errors with Lewis picking up one.
- The teams combined for 17 hits. The Hawks outhit the Lady Knights on a 9-8 advantage.

HOW IT HAPPENED Â | Â GAME TWO- Saint Anselm captured an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Leading off with a single up the middle, the Hawks took the two-run advantage on a home run to center by Julie LeClair.
- Trailing 3-0, Gannon scored its first run of the day in the bottom of the fifth on a single through the right side to drive in deGuia.
- Saint Anselm extended its lead to 6-1 in the top of the sixth. The inning opened with a leadoff solo-shot by Leclair for her second home run of the day. The Hawks' next two runs came on two Lady Knight fielding errors.
- Facing one out in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Knights scored their second run of the day with a solo bomb to left field by junior
Alexa Archambeault (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) to trail the Hawks, 6-2.
- The Hawks closed the game by tacking on two runs in the top-half of the seventh to seal an 8-2 victory.

GAME NOTESÂ |Â GAME TWO- Cunha and Rectenwald each went 2-for-4. Both Rectenwald and Archambeault registered an RBI.
- Sophomore
Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) (3-1) recorded her first loss this season. Gumbita allowed five earned runs off 10 hits. The sophomore recorded three strikeouts.
- The Hawks finished with a 10-7 hitting advantage.
- The Lady Knights ran into five errors including three in the sixth.
