GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • St. Leo was initially the aggressor, scoring the contest's first three goals during the opening eight minutes and three seconds.
  • Gannon finally got the jets going and responded with four consecutive scores to forge ahead. Back-to-back free-position goals by junior Becky Hilker (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central SS) and sophomore Ashley Mozingo (Fallston, Md./Fallston) started the rally.
  • Senior Heather Vouros (Victor, N.Y./Victor) tied the match at three, before another Mozingo free-position goal gave the Lady Knights a 4-3 advantage with 6:39 left in the first half.
  • After the two teams split a pair of goals, St. Leo's Kelsey Burns scored with 18 seconds remaining in the first half to send the contest into the break tied at five.
  • Hilker and freshman Kierstyn Haight (Oshawa, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) opened the second half with scores to push Gannon back in front, 9-7.
  • However, the lead was short lived as St. Leo fired back with two goals of its own to tie the contest again.
  • The constant back and forth continued with two Gannon goals 21 seconds apart. Haight's second tally of the half was followed by Mozingo's third tally of the evening, giving the Lady Knights a 9-7 edge.
  • St. Leo then produced the decisive run, rattling off four straight goals to turn a two-score deficit into a two-goal advantage.
  • Gannon went 19 minutes and 18 seconds without a goal until Haight found the back of the net for the third time in the second half with 1:17 to play.
  • St. Leo won the ensuing draw control and held onto the ball until a turnover with 13 seconds left. However, Gannon returned the turnover nine seconds later to ice the St. Leo victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Wednesday's contest was the second of a three-match road swing during Gannon's spring break.
  • Mozingo and Haight led the offensive unit with three goals each. In the process, both Lady Knights recorded their first career hat tricks.
  • Hilker completed Gannon's trio of multiple-goal scorers with a pair of tallies.
  • Freshman Ileyana Little's (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) first career assist represented Gannon's only helper of the match.
  • Gannon out-shot St. Leo 24-20.
  • Nine of the contest's first 11 goals were scored off free-position shots, including five from the Lady Knights.
