  • Records: Gannon (2-5, 1-4 PSAC), Lock Haven (7-2, 3-2 PSAC)
  • Location: Lock Haven, Pa. - Thomas Fieldhouse
  • The Short Story: The Gannon men's basketball team posted a lopsided 38-20 edge in rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Knights fell at Lock Haven Friday night by a 68-60 score. It represented the Bald Eagles' first victory against the Golden Knights in 25 attempts.

GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The opening eight minutes created a see-saw affair with three ties and one lead change.
  • Gannon led 2-0 and 4-2, but saw Lock Haven answer with a field goal each time. The game saw early ties at two, seven and nine.
  • After senior Tony Boykins (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) tied the contest at nine with a lay-up, Lock Haven took the lead for good with back-to-back lay-ups from Cole Renninger and Al Blount.
  • The Bald Eagles' lead hovered below six points for the next 10 minutes. The only exception came after mini 4-0 run gave Lock Haven a 24-16 edge with 7:23 left in the first half.
  • Gannon battled back within 28-27 following five straight points from freshman Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn./St. Thomas More).
  • However, Lock Haven countered with a seven straight points for a 35-27 advantage. The Bald Eagles grabbed their biggest lead of the first half at 37-27, before a lay-up by sophomore Isaiah Eisendorf (Los Angeles, Calif./Springbrook, Md.) cut the halftime deficit to 37-29.
  • The second half was a stalemate on the scoreboard with both teams netting 31 points.
  • Lock Haven pushed its lead into double digits six times during the second half only to see Gannon cut it back into single digits each time. The Bald Eagles' largest lead was 13 points on three different occasions during the second half.
  • The home squad grabbed its final 13-point lead after Shawn Church's dunk with 5:47 to play.
  • Gannon continued to fight with a 12-3 run over the next four minutes. Senior Jean Yves Toupane (Dakar, Senegal/Lee (Maine) Academy) and junior Matthew Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) scored four points each during the rally. Junior Emmanuel Matey's (Lanham, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) old-fashion three-point play cut the deficit to 64-60 with 1:47 remaining.
  • But it turned out to be a little too late as Lock Haven scored the final four points to secure a 68-60 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Toupane was Gannon's leading scorer for the second consecutive game and fourth time this season with 20 points. He narrowly missed his first career double-double by one rebound for the second time this season.
  • Boykins was the only other Golden Knight in double digits, tying his career-high with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. He also barely missed his first career double-double with nine rebounds.
  • Gannon shot 44 percent (22-50) from the field, 37.5 percent (3-8) from three-point range and 76.5 percent (13-17) from the free throw line.
  • Blount represented Lock Haven's only double-digit scorer with 15 markers, hitting three of the Bald Eagles' four three-pointers.
  • All nine Bald Eagles who saw playing time dented the scoring column.
  • Lock Haven shot 53.1 percent (26-49) from the floor, 28.6 percent (4-14) from behind the arc and 63.2 percent (12-19) from the charity stripe.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Lock Haven defeated Gannon for the first time ever. The Golden Knights entered Friday's contest with a perfect 24-0 mark against the Bald Eagles, including a 6-0 record at the Thomas Fieldhouse.
  • Gannon had posted double-digit victories during its last eight encounters with Lock Haven.
  • Toupane reached double digits in points for the sixth consecutive game.
  • Gannon led the country in scoring defense last season, but Lock Haven was the second consecutive opponent and third in seven games to shoot 53 percent or better. Opponents haven't shot 53 percent or better three times in a season since four opposing teams did it during the 2006-07 campaign.
  • The Golden Knights' plus-18 rebounding advantage was their biggest since out-rebounding Clarion 47-18 during a 78-71 road victory on February 11, 2015.
  • Lock Haven's 20 total rebounds were the fewest by a Gannon opponent since Clarion's 18 in the aforementioned contest.
  • Gannon posted season-highs in steals (8) and blocked shots (4).

  • Gannon was a perfect 9-0 against Bloomsburg until the Huskies posted a 67-64 overtime victory at home during the last meeting in 2013-14.
  • Only two of the 10 all-time meetings have been played on Bloomsburg's home floor.
  • Gannon is 8-0 against the Huskies at the Hammermill Center.
