HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The entire first half was a back-and-forth affair. Neither team was able to produce a lead larger than four points until the final minutes.
  • The two teams battled to ties at eight, 10, 13, 23, 25, 27, 30 and 35.
  • A lay-up by senior Tony Boykins (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) gave Gannon a 35-32 lead with 3:46 left in the first half.
  • Wheeling Jesuit responded by scoring the final nine points of the first half to assume a 41-35 edge at the break.
  • The visitors controlled the second half, out-scoring the Golden Knights 48-25. The Cardinals scored the first six points and never relinquished a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
  • Trailing 60-49, Gannon pulled together to score 11 consecutive points while holding Wheeling Jesuit scoreless for three minutes and 55 seconds.
  • After two free throws from freshman Max Kerr (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Kuteyi ripped off seven consecutive points. Senior Jean Yves Toupane (Dakar, Senegal/Lee (Maine) Academy) then added a pair of free throws, cutting the deficit to 60-50 midway through the second half.
  • However, Wheeling Jesuit fended off the rally with the next seven points.
  • A 9-0 run later in the half pushed the Cardinals' advantage to 83-56 at the 3:52 mark.
  • The visitors' largest lead came at 89-58 with 1:34 remaining, before capturing an 89-60 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Kuteyi led all scorers on both sides for the second consecutive game with a career-high 26 points, hitting 4-of-8 three-pointers.
  • Dressing for the first time in a regular-season game, Kerr drilled his first two career shots from behind the arc en route to an eight-point afternoon.
  • Gannon shot 38 percent (19-50) from the field, 44.4 percent (8-18) from three-point range and 82.4 percent (14-17) from the free throw line.
