The Short Story:Â The Gannon women's basketball team fell in a non-conference game against Grand Valley State, 80-76, Saturday afternoon at the Hammermill Center in Erie, Pa.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Trailing 11-7, in the first quarter, Gannon pulled within two, off a jumper from Morgan Neighbors with 6:08 remaining.
- The Lakers went on a 9-2 run to extend their lead by 10, 21-11 with 4:18 left in the quarter.
- Brianna Brennan sank back-to-back three pointers to pull the Lady Knights within eight, 25-17 to close out the first quarter.
- GVSU opened the second quarter going on a 8-2Â run taking a 33-19 lead with 7:35 remaining on the clock.
- The Lakers took their biggest lead of the game of 18, 40-22, before the Lady Knights responded with a 5-0 run, which included a three-pointer from Neighbors with 4:03 remaining in the quarter.
- Brennan and Neighbors combined for seven points to close out the quarter, as Gannon went into the locker room trailing 51-34.
- Gannon came out of the intermission going on a 6-2 run, 53-41, with 6:34 left on the clock in the third quarter.
- The Lady Knights went on a 9-3 run, to pull within eight of the game, with 3:45 left on the clock as Lauren Tewes hit a three-pointer and Brenna chipped in with a layup.
- The Lakers hit back-to-back jumpers taking a 60-50 lead, with 2:14 left in the quarter.
- Neighbors sank a three-pointer with 1:27 left to play to pull within seven, 60-53, but Grand Valley State closed out the quarter 62-53.
- The Lady Knights slowly began to chip away at the Lakers lead in the fourth quarter, going on an 8-3 run, which saw Shives sink two three pointers.
- With 2:49 left in the game, Gannon again pulled within four of Grand Valley State, 72-68.
- The Lady Knights went on a 5-4 run, to pull within three, 78-73 with 31 seconds left in the game.
- Brennan hit a three-pointer with 11 seconds left to give Gannon new life and pulled the Lady Knights within two, 78-76.
- The Lakers closed out the game at the free throw line, as Brionna Barnett sank both and Grand Valley State took the 80-76 victory.

BEYOND THE BOX:
- Morgan Neighbors and Brianna Brennan recorded a game-high 23 points, while Jennie Thies had 12 rebounds for the Lady Knights.
- Neighbors and Brennan were both 5-of-9 from behind the arch for the Lady Knights.
- Gannon shot 43.3 percent (29-67) from the field and was 83.3 percent (5-6) from the free throw line.
- The Lady Knights scored 15 points off turnovers, and had 24 points from within the paint.
- Grand Valley State was led by Kayla Dawson with a team-high 20 points and six rebounds. Piper Tucker chipped in with 19 points and was 5-of-5 from behind the arch and was 7-of-7 from field goal range.
- The Lakers shot 54.5 percent (12-22) from beyond the arch, 83.3 percent (10-12) from the free throw line.Â
