The Short Story: The Gannon women's basketball team opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action with a, 73-59, victory over Clarion on Wednesday evening at Tippin Gymnasium.

Click HereHOW IT HAPPENED:- Gannon jumped out to a 6-3 lead, before Clarion's Stevie Ray hit back-to-back three pointers to give the Golden Eagles a 9-6 lead with 3:41 remaining in the first quarter of action.
- The Lady Knights regained the lead off free throws from freshman Elissa Ellerbrock, 10-9, with 2:42 left on the clock.
- At the end of the first quarter, a lay-up from sophomore McKenna Shives gave Gannon a 16-14 advantage.
- The Lady Knights opened the second quarter going on a 9-0 run, which saw Shives and Jennie Thies leading the way, 23-14.
- The Golden Eagles pulled within three of Gannon, 27-24, with 2:50 left on the clock.
- To close the quarter, Ellerbrock tallied four consecutive points to give Gannon the lead going into the half, 36-29.
- Gannon extended their lead, 40-31, with back-to-back layups from Morgan Neighbors and Shives with 8:12 left in the third quarter.
- Clarion would go on a 2-0 run to only trail 42-36 with 3:39 left on the clock.
- Shives would sink a three-pointer with 33 seconds left in the quarter and give the Lady Knights a 49-43 lead.
- Shives picked up where she left off, sinking a three-pointer seven seconds into the fourth quarter.
- Gannon continued to build with five more points from Shives, 61-46.
- With 2:40 showing on the clock, Delrika Jones-Carey sunk back-to-back free throws, as Clarion trailed 65-56.
- Gannon closed the quarter and the game going on an 8-3 run, to take the 73-59 victory.
GAME NOTES:- Gannon is currently ranked second according to the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Atlantic Region Media poll that was released on Monday.
- The team is also ranked 18th in the D2SIDA National Media Poll that was released Tuesday afternoon.
- Shives set a new career and season-high for points with 24, while Brianna Brennan and Ellerbrock chipped in with 11 points each.
- Gannon shot 41.0 percent (25-61) from the field, was 85.7 percent (18-21) from the free throw line.
- The Lady Knights recorded 36 points while in the paint, and the bench produced 18 points.
- Clarion was led by Delrika Jones-Carey who recorded a double-double, 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Stevie Ray and Jordan Bekeljk recorded 11 points each.
- The Golden Eagles were 33.3 percent (10-30) from three-point range and were 55.6 percent (5-9) from the free throw line.
UP NEXT:- The Lady Knights return to the Hammermill Center on Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22 when they host Millersville and Shippensburg, as part of a conference doubleheader with the men's team.
