GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half went back and forth as the two teams exchanged the lead four times and were tied four more times.
  • Trailing 7-2, Gannon rattled off seven consecutive points to forge ahead. Junior Kevin Kuteyi (Lanham, Md./Duval) began the run with a three-pointer, before sophomore Isaiah Eisendorf (Los Angeles, Calif./Springbrook, Md.) tied the contest with a fastbreak lay-up. Kuteyi then hit another jumper to give the Golden Knights a 9-7 edge with 12:27 left in the first half.
  • Clarion responded with a run of its own, netting nine straight points to regain the lead at 16-9 midway through the first half.
  • The see-saw affair continued with junior Matthew Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) single-handily produced a 7-0 run as the Golden Knights moved back in front 20-18 with 6:04 left in the first half. The one-man run included a free throw and back-to-back triples.
  • Clarion regained the lead for good on Rob Agurs' jumper at the 3:59 mark, giving the Golden Eagles a 22-21 advantage. It was the start of five straight points to end the half, pushing the home squad into the break with a 25-21 lead.
  • The second half was all Clarion. The Golden Eagles opened the final 20 minutes with six points to grab a double-digit lead at 31-21.
  • Clarion's lead ballooned to 48-27 with 11:13 to play after a 10-0 blitz that held Gannon scoreless for 4:46 and without a field goal for 6:52.
  • The Golden Knights' final push came via an 8-0 run. A three-pointer by Kuteyi, an old-fashion three-point play by Eisendorf and two free throws from senior Jean Yves Toupane (Dakar, Senegal/Lee (Maine) Academy) cut the deficit to 50-37 midway through the final half.
  • But that would be as close as Gannon would get. Clarion countered with eight consecutive points to push its lead back into the 20's. The Golden Eagles grabbed their largest lead at 23 points on two different occasions during the final 6:10, before settling for a 67-46 win.
