The Short Story: The Gannon women's basketball defeated Central State, 76-57, in the first game of the 2015-16 season at the Carol Eckman Memorial Tournament hosted by West Chester University in West Chester, Pa.

Click HereHOW IT HAPPENED:- Gannon jumped out to an early six point lead, 10-4, with a three-pointer by Morgan Neighbors (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) with 6:46 left in the first quarter.
- The Lady Knights, went on a 10-0 led by senior Amanda Berchtold (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) with six points, as Gannon lead 20-4 with 4:07 left on the clock in the first.
- At the end of the first quarter, Gannon led Central State 25-14, after a good layup from the Marauders Shannon DeFoe.
- The Lady Knights opened the second quarter with a 13-2 run, taking a 15 point lead, 40-25 with 4:04 left on the clock.
- Central State went into the half trailing Gannon by 10 points, 42-32 after two good free throws from Kayla Horn.
- The Marauders continued to chip away at Gannon's lead, going on a a 5-0 run to only trail 46-39 with 6:43 left in the third quarter.
- Gannon responded going on a 11 point run,as McKenna Shives (Struthers, Ohio/Struthers) sank two three-balls, and Gannon tallied six buckets from the free throw line, to lead 57-39.
- Freshman Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) sank a three with four seconds left on the clock in the third quarter, as the Lady Knights led 60-44.
- The Lady Knights continued to build upon their lead in the fourth quarter, by going up by as much as 24 points, 72-48, with 3:16 left on the clock.
- Kelsey Herbert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) scored the final basket of the game, with a layup as the clock ticked down to zero, and Gannon defeated Central State 76-57.
GAME NOTES:- Gannon is currently receiving votes in the USA Today Sports Division II Preseason Top 25 Coaches' Poll released earlier this month.Â
- The team is also ranked fourth according to the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Atlantic Region Media poll that was released earlier this week.
- Gannon was selected to finish second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division.
- Brianna Brennan (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) and Elissa Ellerbrock (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) had a team-high 14 points  while Thies had 10 rebounds.
- Neighbors chipped in with 13 points for the Lady Knights.
- Gannon shot 47.1 percent (24-51) from the field, 46.7 (7-15) from three-point range and 77.8 percent (21-27) from the free throw line.
- The Marauders were led by Jordyn Bond with 20 points, five rebounds and seven assists.
- Central State shot 37.8 percent (21-64) from the field, 33.3 percent (9-27) from three-point range and 42.9 percent from the free throw line (6-14).
- All 12 Gannon players saw action with eight seeing double-digit minutes.
- Gannon's big advantage came in the paint (32-18) and points off turnovers (27-10).
