The Short Story:  The California (Pa.) volleyball team hit .196 while Gannon committed 23 attack errors as the Vulcans defeated the Lady Knights, 3-1, Friday evening in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division match at the Hamer Hall in California, Pa.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first set went and forth in the early plays with both teams taking the lead, then the other rallying to tie the match.
  • Gannon took a 7-4 lead, before California tied the match at 8-8.
  • With the set tied at 13-13, the Vulcans went on a 5-1 run taking a 18-14 lead, forcing Gannon to call a timeout.
  • Cal closed out the first set, 25-20, on a 5-2 run.
  • Gannon took another 7-4 lead in the second set, before California took a 9-8 lead. But a kill from Jordyn Thiery (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) tied the set at 9-9.
  • The Vulcans responded going on a 4-0 run taking a 13-9 lead over the Lady Knights. Gannon recorded back-to-back points pulling within two of the Vulcans.
  • California recorded eight consecutive points to take a commanding 21-12 lead, before closing the set out 25-15.
  • Trailing 1-4 in the third set, the Lady Knights tallied five consecutive points to take a 6-4 lead. During that run, Lauren Beck (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) and Thiery, recorded blocks and a kill each.
  • The set saw 14 ties, before Gannon closed out the third set going on a 5-2 run, and forced a fourth set.
  • Gannon led 9-5 in the fourth set, before California called a timeout hoping to stop Gannon's momentum.

  • Gannon responded with a 3-1 run of their own, extending their lead 13-9.
  • With the set tied at 19-19, California went on a 4-0 run taking a 23-19 lead over the Lady Knights.
