HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon out-shot Pitt-Johnstown 18-4 during the opening 45 minutes, but was unable to score a goal.
  • After UPJ took the initial shot of the match, Gannon ripped off eight consecutive shots. However, five never made it on goal.
  • Gannon produced another streak of eight straight shots from the 27th minute until late in the first half without any success again.
  • Senior Kaitlyn Kissell (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) fired a shot from 30 yards out that the UPJ goalkeeper barely tipped over the goal in the 36th minute. She then had another opportunity turned away 41 seconds later as the UPJ goalkeeper made a diving save to her right.
  • Gannon dominated the second half, taking the first 15 shots after the intermission.
  • The Lady Knights finally got on the board with their fourth shot of the second half. Senior Amanda Gallant (Brampton, Ontario/Cardinal Leger SS) started the play with a nice cross from the left end line. Senior Becca Albert (Fairview, Pa./General McLane) headed the crossing pass back to Green, who headed the ball inside the left post for a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute.
  • Six shots later, Gannon extended its lead to 2-0 in the 64th minute. Senior Sammy Valloud (Erie, Pa./McDowell) sent a crossing pass from the right side to senior Mani Brueckner (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area), who headed the pass into the left side of the net to add insurance.
  • Neither team was able to score on the final eight shots of the match, before the Lady Knights secured a 2-0 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Saturday's contest was billed as the Pink Out Match. Several cancer survivors took the field with both teams and were honored during pregame introductions.
  • Wearing special pink jerseys, every Gannon women's soccer student-athlete played for someone who had been affected by cancer. Those names were read in conjunction with each student-athletes' introduction during pregame ceremonies.
  • Gannon has been ranked No. 1 in the last three National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25 Polls, representing its first No. 1 ranking in the program's 29-year history. The Lady Knights have been tabbed No. 1 in the last six NSCAA Atlantic regional rankings, as well as the initial NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings released last Wednesday.
  • The Lady Knights held large advantages in shots (34-7) and corner kicks (11-2).
  • Junior Shannon Differ (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame C.S.S.) made three saves in 77 minutes and 30 seconds to remain undefeated this season in goal.
  • Junior Kayla Wysocki (Avon, Ohio/Avon) turned away two shots in 12:30 of relief action.
  • Green's game-winner was the first goal of her career.
  • Gannon's 34 shots and plus-27 shot advantage were the program's most since November 1, 2014 when the Lady Knights out-shot Clarion 40-4 during a 4-1 victory.
  • Brueckner tallied a goal for the 11th time in 16 matches this season. She has recorded a point during 13 of 16 contests.
  • Gallant's assist on the game-winner was her first of the season.
