GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Indiana (Pa.) came out of the gates on fire, racing out to an 8-1 lead. Only three points were the result of kills. The other five came via three attack errors, a bad set and a service ace.
  • Gannon battled back with an 8-1 run of its own to tie the opening set at nine. The Lady Knights scored five straight points to tie the stanza, including three kills from junior Jordyn Thiery (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley).
  • IUP immediately answered with three consecutive points, ignited by a service error and attack error. The Crimson Hawks never trailed the rest of the way, opening a five-point lead on three different occasions.
  • Leading 22-20, Indiana (Pa.) used two more Gannon attack errors and a service ace to close out the first set 25-20.
  • Gannon opened the second set with a 2-0 lead after a kill from junior Hannah Kren (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and an IUP attack error.
  • It began a back-and-forth first half of the second set. IUP responded with four consecutive points to grab a 4-2 lead. Gannon countered with a 6-1 rally for an 8-5 advantage.
  • IUP followed with seven straight points and never trailed again. A bad set, three attack errors and a service ace accounted for the middle five points of the run.
  • Gannon stayed close and used a mini 3-0 run to pull even at 17 after a kill by sophomore Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio/Solon) and service ace by sophomore Sara Crandall (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Cattaraugus-Little Valley).
  • The second set featured ties at 17, 18 and 19. IUP grabbed the lead for good due to an attack error and bad set by Gannon.
  • Leading 22-21, Indiana (Pa.) rattled off three straight points for a 25-21 victory. Two Lady Knight attack errors sealed the decision.
  • Indiana (Pa.) kept the foot to the gas pedal, opening a 9-3 lead during the third set.

  • Two more Lady Knight attack errors gave IUP a 23-19 advantage, before another Gannon attack error later clinched IUP's 25-21 win during the third set.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon's .100 attack percentage represented its lowest since hitting .075 during a 3-0 loss at Seton Hill on November 8, 2014.
  • Kren was the lone Lady Knight to reach double digits in kills with 13, reaching double digits for the 21st time this season.
  • Crandall led the defensive troops with 10 digs, entering double digits for the 21st time this season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon's five-match win streak came to an end with Friday's setback. It was the Lady Knights' third win streak of at least five matches this season.
  • Head coach Matt Darling's club had won six consecutive matches against IUP prior to Friday. The Lady Knights had won all seven encounters with the Crimson Hawks at the Hammermill Center since joining the PSAC in 2008.
  • Gannon dropped to 9-2 at home, falling at the 'Mill for the first time since September 25.
  • Kren pulled within nine kills of Gannon's all-time top 10, finishing the match with 1,136 career kills.

QUOTABLES |  HEAD COACH MATT DARLING
  • "I have to give credit to IUP for playing a great match tonight. Their great coaching and play were the primary reasons we lost this match. A secondary reason was we never made a play when we needed one. So many times this year, we've had players step up and do something great at key times. Tonight was a match where those same players made mistakes in those same moments."
  • "We don't get any time to feel sorry for ourselves because we have Clarion, who I believe is the best team in the league, tomorrow afternoon. I hope I can coach better tomorrow than I did tonight."

UP NEXT
  • Gannon concludes a weekend homestand Saturday, October 24 against Clarion at the Hammermill Center.
  • Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
  • Live gameday statistics will be available at http://www.sidearmstats.com/gannon/wvball.
  • Clarion has won the last two PSAC Western Division regular-season titles.
  • The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series 33-22.
  • Clarion has swept the last two season series, but Gannon eliminated the Golden Eagles in the 2013 PSAC Quarterfinals by a 3-1 score at Tippin Gymnasium.
