HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon had the better of the play during the opening 45 minutes despite both teams heading to the locker room scoreless.
  • The Lady Knights almost took the lead several times during a nine-minute span early in the contest. The squad hit a redirect in front just wide during the 10th minute, before blasting an uncontested shot from 10 yards out wide in the 17th minute.
  • One minute later, Gannon beat the Roberts Wesleyan goalkeeper to a long, arcing pass, but the ensuing header went just wide.
  • In all, the Lady Knights out-shot the Redhawks 5-1 during the nine-minute blitz.
  • Roberts Wesleyan had a great look late in the first half, but a shot from 10 yards out on the left side hit the crossbar and bounced out of play.
  • The match had two drastic turns early in the second half. The first came 3:11 into the half when Robert Wesleyan's Brittany Houghton was hauled down in the box on a breakaway. But Bella Mitrevski's penalty kick sailed over the crossbar.
  • Gannon took advantage and scored the contest's first goal 3:17 later. With her back to the net, senior Sammy Valloud (Erie, Pa./McDowell) redirected senior Mani Brueckner's (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) corner kick into the goal without looking for a 1-0 advantage.
  • Sophomore Hannah Manczka (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) followed with her first goal of the season in the 57th minute. Junior Olivia Augustyniak's (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) initial free kick from 50 yards out was deflected, before Manczka fired the rebound past the Roberts Wesleyan goalkeeper.
  • Gannon out-shot Roberts Wesleyan 4-2 the rest of the way and remained undefeated with a 2-0 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • For a change of pace, no precipitation fell during Saturday's contest. However, the teams did have the battle frigid temperatures in the 30's and a brief moment of hail during the first half.
  • Gannon has been ranked No. 1 in the last two National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25 Polls, representing its first No. 1 ranking in the program's 29-year history. The Lady Knights have been tabbed No. 1 in the last five NSCAA Atlantic regional rankings.
  • Roberts Wesleyan is tabbed No. 6 in the latest NSCAA East regional rankings.
  • Gannon held advantages in shots (17-8), corner kicks (6-2) and fewest fouls (12-13).
  • Junior Shannon Differ (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame C.S.S.) needed only one save to remaining undefeated this season in goal.
  • Valloud's game-winner was her fourth of the season and seventh of her career.
