The Short Story: The Gannon men's soccer team defeated University of District Columbia, 2-1, in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

- Gannon though struck early in the second half, as Hamza Mourchid (Hombourg-Haut, France / Poncelet) was on the receiving end of a flick from sophomore Alejandro Ferrero (Caspe, Spain/I.E.S. Mar de Aragon) and put it past the Firebird goalie, as the Golden Knights took a 1-0 lead.
- The Firebirds responded as Moussa Traore put the ball over Jorge Hernandez (Atvidaberg, Ostergotland (Sweden)/ Bildningscentrum Facetten) head from 15 yards out, tying the match at 1-1 in the 70th minute of regulation
- One minute later, Ferrero scored the game-winning goal for the Golden Knights, off a free kick from 30 yards out, slipping through the keepers hands, as Gannon held on for the 2-1 victory.
- Gannon was outshot by the Firebirds 17-10, but the Golden Knights lead 7-6 in corner kicks.
UP NEXTGannon remains on the road, as they travel to California, Pa. for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match on Saturday, October 17. Match time is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
