HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mercyhurst scored the only goal of the first half in the 20th minute. Gannon was unable to control a crossing pass from Richard Vanhorne. A Golden Knight defender redirected the pass to Danny Deakin, who scored into the upper left corner of the net from 20 yards out.
  • The visitors took control with two goals early in the second half. Jack Watson scored unassisted 5:09 into the second stanza, placing a perfect ball just over a leaping Gannon goalkeeper from 35 yards out for a 2-0 lead.
  • Mercyhurst extended its lead to 3-0 a little over eight minutes later. Sten Marcson fed Fernando Martinez with a pass down the right side. Martinez got past his defender, before scoring into the lower left corner from the right side of the box.
  • Gannon answered with its only goal of the afternoon in the 62nd minute. Senior Tyron Springer (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. David's Marist Inanda) made the most of his final collegiate match by beating the Mercyhurst goalkeeper one-on-one to the lower left corner. Freshman Alejandro Ferrero (Caspe, Spain/I.E.S. Mar de Aragon) started the scoring play with a pass that got Springer behind the defense.
  • Mercyhurst iced the contest with Martinez's second goal of the match in the 68th minute and Mark Roche's second score of the season in the 75th minute.
