Gannon Women's Soccer Team Falls at Shippensburg to Split Weekend Road Trip

  • The Short Story: Junior Sammy Valloud (Erie, Pa./McDowell) scored 1:37 into the match, but the Gannon women's soccer team was unable to hold the lead before falling 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Shippensburg.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon converted on the first shot by either team when Valloud scored off a corner kick 1:37 into the match. Junior Mani Brueckner (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) took the corner and was credited with the assist.
  • Shippensburg tied the match late in the second half. Bailey Bzdak scored her first goal of the season during the 39th minute, finishing a pass into the box by Shannon Moran.
  • The Raiders produced the eventual game-winner in the 60th minute. Moran started the scoring play again, assisting on Jenny Litz's third goal of the campaign.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon out-shot Shippensburg 15-9. The Lady Knights out-shot the Raiders 5-2 after the eventual game-winner, but was not able to tie the score.
  • Senior Justine Rodrigues (Georgetown, Ontario/Georgetown District) and Brueckner led the team with four shots each.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon has dropped a road decision both times this season when facing the chance to extend a winning streak to three matches.
  • Valloud moved into a tie with Shannon Wolfe (1990-91) and Anna Rottino (1993-96) for 21st place all-time at Gannon with 27 career points.
  • Brueckner dished out her sixth assist, increasing her career assist total to a school-record 32.
  • Valloud's score represented her 13th career goal, moving into a tie for 17th all-time at Gannon with Kelly Ebert (1989-92).
  • Saturday's setback was Gannon's first against Shippensburg since 2010. The Lady Knights had won the last three match-ups against the Raiders and entered today's match with a 5-1 edge in the all-time series.
  • Gannon earned a split during a PSAC weekend road trip. The Lady Knights posted a 3-1 victory at Millersville Friday afternoon.

The Rock is ranked fourth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Atlantic regional rankings, as well as being listed among others receiving votes in the latest national poll. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
  • Wednesday's contest is a rematch of last year's PSAC Quarterfinals. The Lady Knights advanced to the conference semifinals with a 1-0 shutout during that quarterfinal encounter. The only goal was scored by Amanda Gallant (Brampton, Ontario/Cardinal Leger SS) in the 29th minute.
