HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gannon Lady Knights captured an 8-3 lead to open the first set, which provided the team a needed padding against the Clarion Golden Eagles. Late in the set, the Golden Eagles pulled within one of the Lady Knights, 22-21, off a 4-1 run. The Lady Knights were able to hold off the Golden Eagles' late rally on two kills by Kren and an attack error for the 25-22 win.
- Clarion managed to tie the match at one set each with a 28-26 win. The set featured 14 tied scores and six lead changes before the Golden Eagles came out on top in the end. Trailing by three at 19-16, Gannon went on a 6-3 run to tie the set at 22 all. Exchanging the next two points, the Golden Eagles pulled ahead at 24-23 on a kill by Mackenzie Biggs. With the Golden Eagles in search of their match-point, Kren came through with a kill to tie the match once again. A Golden Eagles' error gave the Lady Knights a chance to take the set before a GU error tied the match at 25 all. Carver put the Lady Knights in the lead at 26-25 before the Golden Eagles strung together three points for the win including two GU attack errors.
- In the third set, Gannon took a 2-1 lead in the match with a rallying 26-24 win in the third set. With the score tied at 10 all, Clarion went on a 7-2 run to establish a five-point lead. The Golden Eagles used the lead to their advantage to keep the Lady Knights at bay. Despite taking a 21-16 lead, the Golden Eagles were unable to seal the win, pushing it to 24-21 with the match-point in the balance. The Lady Knights ended the set on a 10-3 rally to secure the 26-24 win including back-to-back kills by freshman Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio / Solon).
- After opening the fourth set in a close fight, Clarion went on an 8-4 run to take a 13-6 lead. Pushing their lead to 15-8, the Golden Eagles used a 7-3 run to double up on the Lady Knights, 22-11, before sealing the 25-14 win to tie the match at 2-2.
- Gannon held a 6-3 lead in the fifth set off three unanswered points to force a Clarion timeout. The Golden Eagles answered back with their own 3-0 run to tie the set at six all. QUOTABLES |  HEAD COACH MATT DARLING
"This was a tough loss because, like Tuesday [against Mercyhurst], we had a lead and let it get away. I didn't make the right adjustments and it cost us. My team played hard again tonight, but we fell a bit short."
