GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon limited Indiana (Pa.) to a negative .100 hitting percentage during an easy 25-14 victory in the opening set. The Lady Knights gradually built their lead, before five straight points put the set away late. Three consecutive kills by Kren, sophomore Jordyn Thiery (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) and senior Emily Carver (Stow, Ohio/Theodore Roosevelt) followed by two IUP miscues gave the Lady Knights a 24-10 advantage en route to a 25-14 victory.
  • Head coach Matt Darling's club held a lead for the majority of the second set until a 7-2 IUP run gave the host club a 20-19 lead. Freshman Kelsey Ansec's (Solon, Ohio/Solon) kill tied the set at 21 and started a string of three consecutive Gannon points. The Lady Knight advantage sat at 23-22, before Kren recorded a kill and a block to clinch a 25-22 win.
  • The third set was also tight as Indiana (Pa.) grabbed its largest lead at 13-10. Gannon rallied with a 10-4 run to forge ahead 20-17 on a service ace by senior Megan Wendel (Aurora, Ohio/Kenston).
  • Much like the second set, Gannon held a tight 23-22 advantage before ending the stanza with a kill and a block. Kren had the kill again to make it 24-22. Carver then followed with a block to end the match.

GAME NOTES
  • Kren recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs. Both marks were team-highs and created her fourth consecutive double-double.
  • Wendel dished out 33 assists, giving her at least 30 assists during 12 of 15 matches.
  • Senior Taryn Graham (Huron, Ohio/Huron) had 10 digs, reacheing double digits for the sixth consecutive match and 14th time in 15 contests.
  • IUP's 0.37 hitting percentage was the lowest by a Gannon opponent since Cheyney hit minus .012 on September 19. The Lady Knights have held opponents to a hitting percentage under .100 six times this season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon is off to a 7-2 start in conference play for the third time in the last four seasons. The Lady Knights' 14-2 overall record is the program's best after 16 matches since the 2003 club was 15-1.
  • Clarion continues to hold down first place in the PSAC Western Division with an 8-1 record after a sweep of Mercyhurst Saturday afternoon. Gannon sits in a three-way tie for second place with California (Pa.) and Seton Hill. All three teams are one match back.
  • Gannon moved to 33-8 all-time against Indiana (Pa.) with its fifth consecutive victory against the Crimson Hawks.
  • Wendel remains in second place all-time at Gannon with 3,585 career assists. She needs 169 to break Jess Deemer's (2000-03) school record of 3,753 assists.

FIRST REACTIONS |  HEAD COACH MATT DARLING
  • "It feels good to be back on the winning side today," said head coach Matt Darling. "We are still finding our way through a long season and things don't look the way we want right now. But we will keep working. I'm looking forward to having a full week of practice, which is what we probably need more than anything else."

UP NEXT
  • Gannon has a full week off until returning to action Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11 at the PSAC West-East Crossover hosted by Slippery Rock. It represents the final crossover weekend of the year. The Lady Knights will battle Lock Haven, Pitt-Johnstown, Millersville and Shippensburg during the two-day event.
