HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon received an own goal for the second consecutive match. The Golden Knights assumed a 1-0 lead 7:20 into the contest on an own goal off a bad clearing pass.
  • Freshman Ted Martin (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) extended the lead to 2-0 with a header off senior Robbie Bennett's (Durban, South Africa/St. Benedict School) crossing pass from the right side in the 27th minute.
  • Slippery Rock finally got on the board in the 34th minute. Stephen Donnelly beat the Gannon goalkeeper into the lower left corner from the top of the box, cutting the deficit to 2-1 with his eighth goal of the season.
  • Gannon immediately answered a little over three minutes later. Bennett stole a pass, before drilling the ball off the crossbar and into the goal for a 3-1 lead with 8:04 left in the first half. It was his 10th score of the campaign.
  • The high-scoring first half continued with arguably the biggest goal of the contest. Dom Francis pulled in a loose ball and scored into the left corner with 17 seconds left in the half. The tally pushed the Rock into halftime with a 3-2 deficit, but with all the momentum.
  • Slippery Rock began the second half with the same fire it ended the first half. The Rock scored the tying and go-ahead goals during the first five minutes of the second stanza.
  • Donnelly netted his second goal of the match 2:21 into the second half, tying the match at three off a rebound from Nick Kutcher's initial shot.
  • Less than two minutes later, Peter Boylan completed a series of passes from Francis and Kutcher with his sixth goal of the season. His score into the left side of the net gave the Rock a 4-3 lead that eventually proved to be the final score.
