HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a fumble on Gannon's first possession, Edinboro needed only two plays to get on the board. Anfreenee Williams raced down the right sideline 58 yards on the first play, before scoring from one yard out on the second play for a 7-0 lead 2:32 into the contest.
  • Gannon responded with 52 unanswered points, including 38 during the first half. Jones sparked the blitz with a 68-yard touchdown run that tied the game at seven with 7:31 left in the first half.
  • The Golden Knights followed with a nine-play, 85-yard drive during their next possession for a 14-7 advantage. The big play was a 46-yard completion from redshirt junior Liam Nadler (Leipsic, Ohio/Leipsic Local) to Caliste on a third-and-10 play. Three plays later, Nadler scored the go-ahead touchdown from seven yards out with 10 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
  • Gannon ended the first half with points during its last four possessions. The first was set-up by a Zach Stegner (Brandenburg, Ky./Richmond Hill, Ga.) fumble recovery on the Edinboro 20-yard line. Redshirt junior Mike Phillips (Bowie, Md./Bowie) forced the fumble. Jones needed only one play to chew up those 20 yards, pushing the lead to 21-7 with 10:51 left in the second quarter.
  • An 11-yard Edinboro punt started Gannon's next possession at the Fighting Scots' 32-yard line. A four-play drive concluded with a 23-yard pass from Nadler to Caliste and a six-yard scoring strike from Nadler to redshirt junior Jesstin Hamm (Harwood, Md./DeMatha Catholic) at the 7:29 mark.
  • Redshirt junior Joshua Wiechelt's (Depew, N.Y./Depew) interception inside Edinboro territory during the Fighting Scots' next possession continued the onslaught. A short 13-yard drive ended with a 37-yard field goal by true freshman Karch Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) with 3:18 showing on the clock.
  • After Edinboro turned the ball over on downs at the Gannon 40-yard line, the Golden Knights put the exclamation point on the first half. Gannon went 60 yards in one minute and 25 seconds. The Golden Knights opened the drive with three consecutive passes, including a pair to Caliste and a 29-yarder to freshman Brandon Mansell (New Brighton, Pa./Blackhawk). Senior Alex Papson's (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) four-yard touchdown run closed the drive with 10 seconds remaining, propelling the Golden Knights into the halftime locker room with a 38-7 lead.
  • Gannon started the second half where it ended the first, scoring touchdowns during its first two drives after the intermission. A two-yard touchdown run by Nadler capped the first drive and a 21-yard scoring jaunt by Jones ended the second drive, pushing the lead to 52-7 with 12:10 left in the game.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon won the turnover battle 4-1, scoring 24 points after Edinboro turnovers.
  • The Golden Knights out-gained the Fighting Scots 601-276, including a 305-126 edge on the ground. The total offense represented the fifth-highest single-game total in school history, finishing 38 yards off the school record.
  • Gannon entered the game ranked 10th among all NCAA Division II programs in third-down conversion percentage (51.1) and proceeded to go 9-of-13 against Edinboro.
  • Jones rushed for 212 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries. He finished one yard shy of his career-high (213) set at Clarion in week four. Jones was one touchdown shy of his career-high (4) at Cheyney in week two.
  • Caliste recorded his ninth career 100-yard receiving game with 123 yards on nine catches. He is Gannon's all-time leader in career 100-yard receiving games.
  • Redshirt freshman Zach Stegner (Brandenburg, Ky./Richmond Hill, Ga.) recovered his first career fumble during the second quarter.
  • Redshirt freshman Nico Mendieta (San Ramon, Calif./California) recovered his first career fumble during the third quarter.
  • The 45-point margin of victory represented the third-largest in school history. The Golden Knights broke the school record earlier this season with a 48-0 victory at Cheyney.
  • Gannon's 52 points fell four points shy of the school record (56) set against Ashland in 1950.
  • The Golden Knights tied a school record for most points in the first half with 38, accomplishing it for the fourth time in school history.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Caliste broke Gannon's career record for receptions Thursday night, surpassing Sam Culberth's (2002-06) mark of 173. Caliste now has 175 catches for 1,993 yards. He needs 106 yards to break Culberth's school record (2,099) for career receiving yards.
  • Gannon has out-scored Edinboro 107-21 during the last two seasons, defeating the Fighting Scots 55-14 last year at Gannon University Field.
  • Jones is the third Golden Knight in school history to have a pair of 200-yard rushing games in the same season. Kevin Cloherty performed the feat in 2001 and Jansen Jones has three last season.
  • Jones recorded the sixth 1,000-yard rushing season in school history. His 213 yards against Edinboro gave him 1,067 yards through seven games. He needs only 34 yards to have the second-highest single-season total and needs 522 to break Jansen Jones' school record of 1,588 set last season.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon has eight days off before returning to action Saturday, October 25 against Seton Hill at Gannon University Field. Game time is scheduled for 12 noon.
  • The Golden Knights posted a 40-21 victory during the first-ever meeting between the two programs last season at Gannon University Field.
  • Three of Gannon's final four regular-season games will be played at Gannon University Field. A November 1 trip to California (Pa.) is the only remaining regular-season road trip.
